And for the benefit of those out there who may not have seen this, here
is Ritchie Castellano's version. Unfortunately quite lo-res, but the
only surviving version still out there in the 'wild' that hasn't been
    stomped on ;- (

Looks like he had as much fun doing it as Paul/George/John did.

Whoa, thanks for that, Norbert. I did find it confusing when he put it all together (at the 16:54 mark). There are four, not three guitars shown. So I thought the first (gray and white Fender?) one and the red (Gibson) one that comes in next were both
Paul, but they are playing at the same time, so was there overdubbing? Then George comes in with the brown Les Paul, then John with the yellow Epiphone. I guess my main question is, though Pachelli shows us Paul's parts playing only the red Gibson, when
he shows the whole thing is Paul playing the gray and white Fender (if it's a Fender) as well?

In the Richie Castellano one, he does that first Paul part, which I'll call the "vamp" (then the "Love you" vocals come in over it) and then that part continues, but is not shown as the second Paul part comes in (where he's wearing a red tee shirt),
followed by George and John. But Paul, who presumably is continuing the vamp riff, also joins the fun with George and John, so there must be overdubbing.

Yeah, the grey Fender Telecaster is Paul (it's his song) as well. The solos were dubbed over that.

There's more on the whole thing in Geoff Emerick's book. They were debating whether George or Paul should solo over the rhythm part. Lennon noodled a bit, and said, "*I* should solo over it." Everyone sort of chuckled, but Lennon persisted a little --
and the idea of the three of them trading solos emerged.

Overdubbing only necessary if one player is playing different parts at
    the same time !

No no problem with the not overdubbed recollection. Just separate
tracks, played live, in one take, as Emerick states.

Even if recorded to just one single track it still wouldn't imply any overdubbing. However it would have then been very tricky to balance the
parts in mixing, if required, which is *why* it wasn't done that way. It
may have then also have required more than just the one take.

However there is a separate rhythm guitar part strummed the whole way
through the 'solo' which would have been overdubbed, or more likely the
    solo(s) overdubbed onto it.

Here's some background to the Castellano project. Sad the video is only
360p. There was an HD version once upon at time, but that (and all other
online copies at any resolution) seem to have been killed off by Apple ;- (
