One of the participants in New York's avant-garde scene was a poet named Diane Wakoski. Wakoski said of Ono: "I resented her calling her very bad and silly writing 'poetry,' and I thought she was hustler, not artist. This, because she earned her
living as a model, seemed to go to bed with all the men around, and, in fact, never seemed to sacrifice much for her 'art' as all the avant-garders that I knew did."
