    ......prevent another musician from recording one of their tunes? Let's say someone wants to record Dave Clark's " Glad All Over", can Dave say "No"? The reason I ask is that I read that the Band would would never perform"The Night They Drove Old Dixie
    Down"after Joan (HacK) Baez destroyed it!! Could they have prevented her from recording it in the first place or is it open marketplace once a tune is released???

    No. You pay statutory mechanicals and you can record anything you want.
    You can't release a video with statutories, though, that has to be negotiated. --scott
