We don’t seem to hear a great deal in this newsgroup about teaching
methods for our youngest piano students. Is anything is going on out
there that is innovative, effective, or possibly detrimental to the
learning and interest level of the younger set? Three questions come to mind:
l. Some teachers are starting out kids with a year or two of playing
without reading. This method seems to have given rise to some
controversy. What are your experiences with this?
2. There are a number of group lesson endeavors going on using keyboards
and such. These seem to start around age five or so. Have these been effective?
3. Has computer software been useful? If so, which software?
The experiences of teachers, parents, and the kids themselves would be
most helpful.
My grand father learned piano at 72 - so you can definitely get started with doing it now!
