For those not sure where to start, a good introduction is the Slava compilation entitled _Voice of the People_ (Blonde Vinyl). Something else
to look into might be _Metamorphosis_ (R.E.X., 1993), a compilation of remixes
by Brainchild, Living Sacrifice (a thrash band that provides industrial remixes
for this project) and Circle of Dust.

    SIGNED BANDS:

    Blackhouse
Blackhouse consists of Ivo Cutler and Sterling Cross from Salt Lake City who provide listeners with music described as "a factory set to an African rhythm with radio feedback coming through the intercom system"; "power electronics" is their title of choice. Formed in 1983, they are considered the first Christian industrial band. Apart from appearing on
well over a dozen compilations, Blackhouse has released 11 albums:
_Pro-Life_ (Ladd-Frith, 1984; reissued Minus Habens, 1992), _Hope_ (RRR, 1984/85), _Hope Like a Candle_ (Ladd-Frith, 1985; reissue Dark Vinyl, 1992), _Five Minutes After I Die_ (Ladd-Frith/Cause & Effect, 1986; reissue Geschmack, 1989; reissue Blackhouse, 1993), _Holy War_ (RRR, 1987; reissue Ladd-Frith, 1990; reissue Daft, 1993), _We Will Fight Back!_ (Staalplaat, 1988; Ladd-Frith, 1990; reissue Dischordia, 1993), _Stairway to Heaven_ (Ladd-Frith, 1989), _Material World_ (Ladd-Frith, 1990), _The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost_ (Body/Antler-Subway/Ladd-Frith, 1991), _The Gospel According to the Men in Black_ (Minus Habens, 1990), and _Hidden Beneath the Metal_ (Ladd-Frith, 1991).

    Brainchild/Circle of Dust
Brainchild and Circle of Dust are basically different incarnations
of the same band, both headed up by Scott Albert. Circle of Dust, Scott Albert's main project, evolved from an underground progressive thrash band named Immortal (the track "Senseless Abandon" from the debut Circle of Dust album had actually been previously released in its thrash form on the
R.E.X. _Demolition_ sampler). It is descibed as containing crunchy guitars with synth overlays and heavy beats. While similar, Brainchild, Scott Albert's side project, is cosidered heavier and more guitar-oriented than CoD. Circle of Dust's only original release is the aforementioned self-titled
debut (R.E.X., 1992). However, Brainchild has had it's only album, _Mindwarp_ (R.E.X.), renamed by R.E.X. for Relativity distribution to Circle of
Dust - _Brainchild_. It is basically the same as Brainchild's _Mindwarp_, but
with some remixes, rerecordings, and three bonus tracks. Future releases for Scott Albert include a re-release of _Circle of Dust_ for Relativity with all new recordings in the summer as well as a re-release of the _Metamorphosis_ album featuring only Scott Albert's material, scheduled for late 1994. Rumours
also have it that he is working on a more keyboard-based side-project under the
    name Rivot.

    Deitiphobia/donderfliegen
donderfliegen was comprised of Brent Stackhouse and Wally Shaw. Only one release was put out under the donderfliegen name -- a 1991 independant cassette entitled _Digital Priests_, of which only 250 copies were made. In mid-1991 they felt a need to clarify their message and image which led to the name change to Deitiphobia. Since that time they have released _Fear of God_ (Blonde Vinyl, 1991), _Digital Priests, the Remixes_ (Blonde Vinyl, 1992), which contains work from the original Digital Priests cassette as well as new material, and their new release, _Clean_ (MYX, 1994). Note, however, that only Wally Shaw has been involved with Deitiphobia since the _Digital Priests, the Remixes_ release, as Brent Stackhouse has gone on to other projects (primarily X-Propagation). Their music is primarily keyboard-based, often described as EBM more than "industrial".

    global Wave system
global Wave system is made up of three guys from Illinois who
relocated to Texas to put together the album _Life Equals Death_ (Intense, 1993), along with the help of Brent Stackhouse and Byron Payne (of X-Propagation). Although sometimes compared to Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly, global Wave system has a distinct sound of their own through the use
of totally unconventional keyboard sounds and music. Abstract industrial with
    excellent programming.

    Mental Destruction
Mental Destruction is a Swedish atmospheric industrial-noise band, approached from a heavy-metal perspective. They currently have out _When Madness Strikes_ (Metal Cross, 1990; reissue Cold Meat Industry, 1992), _The Intensity of Darkness_ (Cold Meat Industry, 1991), and a few songs on some hard-to-find secular compilations.

    Mortal
One of the more popular Christian industrial bands, Mortal consists
of Jerome and Gyro, and their music is basically guitar-driven industrial-rock. Their two regular releases to the public have been _Lusis_ (Intense, 1992) and _Fathom_ (Intense, 1992). They also have some material out on some compilations, a live album simply entitled _Mortal - Live EP_ (Intense) and they have recently contributed a mini motion-picture on child abuse called _Rift_. Citing frustration with the music industry, they have since disbanded.

    November Comandment
November Commandment is an EBM band from Europe, displaying similarities to Front 242, but at times also leaning into the
industrial-goth realm. Their first album is entitled _Complete Structure_ (Krash) and that has been followed by the EP _Exile Station_ (Motorised
    Mind, 1993)

    Pass-a-Fist
Pass-a-Fist is a guitar-driven, industrial influenced college rock band, comparible in places to Under Midnight, although with less samples. Dave Perkins and Lynn Nichols deliver distorted vocals over discernable melodies on their self-titled first release (R.E.X., 1994).

Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus
This is a highly sophisticated, very diverse group, keeping in tradition with the principles of some of the early industrial artists. On their releases _The Gift of Tears_ (Sanitorium/Probe Plus, 1988; reissue Sanitorium/Probe Plus, 1992) and _Mirror_ (Sanitorium/Probe Plus, 1991),
they display elements of experimental, folk, and Celtic music. Influenced
    by Dead Can Dance.

    Under Midnight
Under Midnight is Frankie and D.B. Allen Their only release
to date, _Under Midnight_ (Wonderland, 1992), runs along an inter-connected theme and covers a variety of styles, most characterized by guitar backing and sampling. Sometimes compared to Mortal.

    X-Propagation
X-Propagation is the new project of Brent Stackhouse, formerly of Deitiphobia, and Byron Payne, who handles sampling. Their first and only release so far, _Conflict_ (Intense, 1993), could be described as heavy electronic music -- synthesized, distorted-guitar programming, crazy keyboard sounds and heavy beats.

    INDEPENDENT BANDS

    Angst
Angst is a one-man industrial-metal project that covers a wealth of genres, drawing on influences from hardcore dance to acoustic rock and unifying them under hard drumbeats. The recently completed demo entitled _Strain_ (independent, 1994) is available from 137 Records, 122 Overbrook Drive, Concord NC 28025 ($5).

    Arbitrage
Arbitrage is Ross Assink, from Seattle. Definately on the heavier
side of industrial, his music has been compared to Brainchild and Ministry. This industrial-metal project has two independent cassette releases (_Music for
the Sacrifice_ and _The Healing Power of Death_), both available from Ross Assink, 1319 Front Street, Lynden WA 98264 ($5 each).

    Audio Paradox
Audio Paradox has one independent self-titled cassette release out, with music ranging from experimental noise to industrial dance/metal. For more information, e-mail to jdpyle@david.wheaton.edu.

    Gadget
Gadget is the industrial alter-ego of electronic avant-pop musician Marc Plainguet, the style on this project being extremely noise-oriented
with very few melodic elements. Gadget released one of the first Christian industrial cassettes in 1987 called _Joyful Noize_ (Corpqii) and followed it up
in 1990 with _Gnashing of Teeth_ (Corpqii). Upcoming is Gadget's third release, _Cruel and Inhuman Practices_ (Corpqii, 1994). All releases are available (along with Marc Plainguet's other projects) from Corpqii Productions,
    411 Steel Street, Youngstown OH 44509 ($6 each). (e-mail for catalogue: at231@yfn.ysu.edu)

    Neocelt
Neocelt is Todd Kelsey, an industrial-metal project that deals with
the history of Ireland. While similar in sound to Ministry, Neocelt has
also been described as industrial-goth. The only Neocelt release to date
is the _Irish Apocalypse_ demo (Wallace Multimedia Group, 1994).

    New Society
New Society is an as-of-yet unsigned band that has been compared to Mortal, Under Midnight, and Nine Inch Nails. They presently have a demo (independent, 1993) available. For more information or to order, write to Roman Recordings, 4308 East Drive, Wonder Lake IL 60097 ($2+$1s&h).

    Opinion 8
    Opinion 8 is Joe Wallace.

    Primary Censor
Primary Censor is an independent band that mixes a hardcore edge
and energy with industrial. They currently have two demo cassette releases, obtainable from Eric Shirey, 7905 San Felipe #254, Austin TX 78729 ($4 each).

THE FRINGES (not considered by some to fit in with the industrial category,
but either with aspects similar to the style or industrial remixes of
    songs)

    Betrayal
Betrayal is a hevy-metal band, but did an industrial remix of one
of their songs, found on the _$.99_ single.

    Generation
Although not considered by some to be "industrial", Generation
still contains industrial tones. However, it does tend to lean towards speed-metal, with less synthesizers and more heavy guitar riffs than other "typical industrial" bands.

    Jyradelix
Jyradelix is made up of Jerome and Gyro (from Mortal) and their cousins, the Psycho Lizards. Their album, _Invincible_ (MYX, 1992) is primarily hard-core techno music, though at times leans into an industrial sound similar to Mortal's.

    Living Sacrifice
Living Sacrifice is a thrash metal band. However, they have had
some songs done with industrial remixing for the _Metamorphosis_ (R.E.X., 1993) compilation (with Brainchild and Circle of Dust) and these are expected to be re-released on Relativity on their own, along with other remixes from their latest album, _Nonexistant_ (R.E.X., 1993).

    Geoff Mann
Very diverse, Geoff Mann can be folky at times, dancy at times, and noisy at times. While not industrial in the strictest sense of the term, his musical approach is very derivative of many experimental musicians. His first release is entitled _Second Chants_ (S.I., 1992).

    Wigtop
Wigtop is Brent Stackhouse (from Deitiphobia and X-Propagation) and his wife. Their only release was called _Revelation 1921_ (Blonde Vinyl), a project that falls into the mood-industrial/slow techno range.
