I’m sad to hear this. RIP, Maestro.

Wow. I quickly checked the Internet here in Italy and here is an article
from La Stampa that appeared today:

The world of culture and music is in mourning for the death of Angelo Gilardino. The guitarist and composer had turned 80 in November he died
in the early hours of this morning at the Sant'Andrea hospital, where he
had been hospitalized for several days. The career of the maestro from
Vercelli began in 1958 which led him to become known and appreciated all
over the world, both at the concert level (career ended in 1981) and
above all in teaching and composition, in which he was the protagonist
    until the end.

It is no coincidence that in Rome in December Gilardino was ideally
celebrated for his 80th birthday on an evening in which a concert
composed by Gilardino during the lockdown was performed. The same
concert was played on 16 December in Asigliano on the occasion of the
birthday party in which, among other things, Gilardino had received
    honorary citizenship.

The president of the Region Alberto Cirio also participated in that
ceremony. It was the last public appearance of the master from Vercelli,
in a life full of rewards and satisfactions. He was considered the heir
of Segovia (he was also director of the foundation named after the
famous Spanish guitarist) and passed on his gift to many of his pupils.
Angelo Gilardino leaves his son Alessandro and his brother Sergio, an
expert linguist and teacher for years in Canada. The funeral will be
celebrated on Monday at 3 pm in Asigliano. The rosary also in Asigliano
on Sunday at 5pm. The funeral parlor will be open from tomorrow at
    Sant'Andrea from 8 to 12 and from 14.30 to 18.
