This Wednesday, December 2, 9--11:30 p.m., at Folk Night at
The Ship Pub in St. John's, Newfoundland, the headliner
will be accordion player Vince Collins releasing his
    second CD, Over Home.

Cover is $5, there are door prizes, there is an open
mic set after the headline set, and open mic
performers get a free beer. Also the kitchen is open
    until 8 p.m.

Here is the blurb from http://nlfolk.com/folknight.php# :

Vince Collins bought his first accordion at O'Brien's Music Store in
1956, and played it all the way back home aboard the Newfie Bullet.
Today, almost fifty years later, he is still using the same accordion to
play an extensive repertoire of singles, doubles, step tunes and
waltzes, the tunes he learned from his parents growing up in St. Anne's,
as well as some of his own compositions. In September, 2002, he realized
a lifelong dream by recording his first compact disc, entitled Lifting
Out the Stove, featuring many of the old Placentia Bay dance tunes, his
own compositions and father's favorite, Vince's Triple, and
reminiscences of his days playing for dances when he was a younger man.

At 80 years of age, Over Home is his second release. His current album represents the best of Newfoundland aural tradition...tunes that were
played by fishermen and handed down from generation to generation,
including tales and folklore from rural life.

Vince along with his son Glen on guitar will perform for the first set
followed by an extended open mike session with some invited guestsŠ.and
maybe an accordion or two as wellŠ.

Next week (December 9) the headliners will be the oldest
bluegrass band in Canada, Crooked Stovepipe.
