This Wednesday, Nov. 27, 9--11:30 p.m., at Folk Night at The Ship Pub in
St. John’s, Newfoundland, there is a traditional jam session hosted by concertina and button accordion player Fergus Brown-O’Byrne. The
kitchen is open until 8 p.m. (but may take the last order at 7:45 p.m.).
Cover is by donation, with a suggested donation of $5, and it
is free for performers.
Here is the blurb from the Facebook event page, which is
https://www.facebook.com/events/377833653153829/
“Fergus the Younger will be hosting the session this week!”
(Fergus Brown-O’Byrne is the son of Fergus O’Byrne of Ryan’s Fancy fame and usually plays concertina and button accordion at the session though I
think he can also play fiddle, but there are often many fiddlers at these traditional Newfoundland and Irish round table unamplified jam sessions, usually held on the last Wednesday of the month.)
Upcoming:
Nov. 29: Daniel Champagne ($20, sold out)
Dec. 4: Cathy and Kirk Newhook
Dec. 11: The Mystery of the Portuguese Waltzes (book launch/concert)
Dec. 18: Trad session hosted by Stacey Seward, home from Toronto
Dec. 22: The 14th Annual Holiday Wassail (at George St. United)
Dec. 25: no Folk Night
Jan. 1: no Folk Night (I think, will update if there is)
Jan. 26: The 19th Annual Young Folk at the Hall (at LSPU Hall)
