Tonight was the first night of The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival in Bannerman Park in downtown St. John’s. Unfortunately it was raining all evening, so I decked myself out in my blue rain suit and showed up a bit late to hear the last three acts: locals The Mark Hiscock Band, young but experienced Quebec folk rock band Rosier (formerly called Les Poules a
Colin), and Joel Plaskett and his dad Bill Plaskett.

The keyboard player/backing vocalist for Rosier is Sarah Marchand, and I now wonder if she is related to Sarah McLachlan’s producer Pierre Marchand.
