This Wednesday, April 3, 9--11:30 p.m., at Folk Night at The Ship Pub in
St. John’s, Newfoundland, the headliners are fiddler Maria Cherwick and friends (I think including mandolinist Darren Browne and singer Sherry Ryan).

There is an open mic set between the two headline sets and open mic
performers get a free Quidi Vidi beer. Also there are door prizes, which are usually $10 gift certificates donated by sponsors. Also the kitchen is open until 8 p.m. (but they may take the last order at 7:45 p.m.). Cover is only
    $5.

Here is the blurb from the Facebook event page, which is https://www.facebook.com/events/2292159977669155/

“ ***Maria and guests! Well, this should rock along quite nicely.***

Maria Cherwick is certainly one of the busiest musicians in town! A highly trained classical violinist, she is also an accomplished fiddler who
fearlessly (well mostly) tackles jazz, traditional styles and bluegrass with
a skill and musicality that has made her one of the most sought after side musicians in St. John’s.

In fact, in addition to a slew of awards and nominations with her trad thrash punk outfit the Kubasonics, Maria was awarded the MusicNL Side Musician of
    the Year for 2018.

Aside from all that, she has performed from Victoria to St. John's, as well
as throughout Ukraine as a folk musician. She has played with a number of ensembles, in styles ranging from Celtic, to Old Time, to Eastern European thrash polka. In addition, she also studies, performs, and has a passion for improvisation and jazz. Maria can be seen frequently performing fiddle music
in and around St. John's with the Kubasonics, the Old Contemporaries, Strong Harbor Strings, the Newfoundland Symphony and many others.“

    Coming up:
April 10: Allan Ricketts (traditional singer and multi-instrumentalist)
April 17: Dave Mundy and CallumLatta (acoustic blues)
April 24: tradition jam session hosted by fiddler Rosemary Lawton

It was a great night of music for just $5 cover. Maria had a total
of nine guests (not all at once) plus two performers played and
sang during the open mic set.
