• New piem: Only If It's Inconvenient

    Title: Only If It's Inconvenient
    Piem*

You can count on one thing only
    Forecast your cat this way:
    Only if it's inconvenient,
    If it causes disarray

Will she sit on Ron or Sandra?
And where will she next intrude?
When will she insist on cuddles?
When will she need fresher food?

Cats know all your daily schedules
Cats know when you need to leave
Though they're cute and soft and purring
These pets can be your pet peeve

One side of the door or t'other
She wants both, to my dismay
When we've comp'ny then she brings us
Mice she's killed along the way

Bought bulk cat food at great discount
'Cause she really liked this brand
Now, of course, she will not eat it
Bought new stuff at her command

When it's time for her vet visit
I can search for her all day
When I need to nap or study
She comes to demand I play

You can count on one thing only
    Forecast your cat this way:
    Only if it's inconvenient,
    If it causes disarray

*I had no tune in mind as I wrote this, but afterward I noticed that
it matches the scansion and rhyme scheme of Gwen Knighton's Rite of
Passage. I think that music is too intense for this subject matter,
though. So I'll still call it a piem, but you can make your own
    decisions.

I was sloppy again. It should have had my standard copyright and

Guessing a lyricist's opinions from his songs is as futile as
guessing an author's opinions from his novels.

    Nice.

I just unearthed one of Hazel's toy mice. She's delighted; she wanted me
to wake up at 4AM to help (or at least watch) her play with it.

(Mumble. Go pounce somewhere else, kid. You must not Hop On Pop.)
