• Context request: Seanan McGuire's _Dear Gina_

From Joe Kesselman@21:1/5 to All on Sat Feb 3 15:37:32 2024
_Dear Gina_ is a song I've always liked, but which I hesitate to sing
because I can't explain the story behind it. If it's from one of
Seanan's published stories, it isn't one I've read... and I'm not even
sure which universe it's set in.

Can anyone point me in appropriate directions? adTHANKSvance...

Partial answer: In a performance by Vixy and Tony, they said it was "a
    horror move that never existed."

Write your own backstory, I guess.

... or pass a non-fanboi question to her for me?

I'm tempted to do a gender change on _Dear Gina_, so the author of the
letter more closely matches myself -- basically, replace "one frightened
    girl" with "boy" or "guy".

Problem with that: Later in the lyrics, the writer refers to Gina as
"you little bitch." I think that changes connotations when sung by a
    hetero male, and distractingly so.

I'd like to find out if Seanan has a preferred replacement phrase.

(Of course if others have suggestions, those too are welcome.)
