• New filk: Killing Me Slowly With My Song

From Arthur T.@21:1/5 to All on Mon Apr 26 15:37:47 2021
It wasn't until after I wrote this that I started looking to see
who else might have done something like it. I know I must have
read the Phil Mills version when Xeno 181 was published (in
2019), and it does look familiar. Fortunately, I took a somewhat
    different approach to the subject.

Three other notes: I don't compose, so this is absolutely not
about me. I didn't rhyme any pronouns, so you can swap in any
(one-syllable) one you want. It gets a bit repetitious after the
    last verse because I try to write to the original as it's sung;
if anyone wants to sing mine, feel free to abbreviate as
    desired.

Title: Killing Me Slowly With My Song
ttto: Killing Me Softly With His Song by Norman Gimbel & Charles Fox

Hearing my tune as I wrote it
    Hearing those parody words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
Maybe I'll kill him, for this filk

One day I wrote a good song
    It even made me smile
But now there's this new version
I think is oh so vile
And now I sit in circle
    Pretend it's all good fun

I'm hearing my tune as I wrote it
    Hearing those parody words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
Maybe I'll kill him, for this filk

I feel all flushed with fury
    I'm seething at the crowd
They come in on the chorus
    The singer is so proud
    I have to sit politely
    Although I'm dying while...

I'm hearing my tune as I wrote it
    Hearing those parody words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
Maybe I'll kill him, for this filk

    The song is almost over
And soon the crowd will clap
I'll have to cheer right with them
    And glorify this crap
I can't be seen as petty
    Good sports take in stride...

This hearing my tune as I wrote it
    Hearing those parody words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
Maybe I'll kill him, for this filk

Hearing my tune as I wrote it
    Hearing those parody words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
Maybe I'll kill him, for this filk

Hearing my tune as I wrote it
    Hearing those parody words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
    Maybe I'll kill him

    He was playing my tune
But he was singing his own words
    Killing me slowly with anger
    Blood pressure rising, I listen
    All of my nuance derided
Maybe I'll kill him, for this filk

guessing an author's opinions from his novels.
