• New filk: (yet another) Reavers

From Arthur T.@21:1/5 to All on Fri Mar 19 19:15:53 2021
Yes, it's been done a couple of times before, but my muse didn't care
about that. I think this is sufficiently different.

    Also, Firefly/Serenity spoilers.

    Titles: Reavers
ttto: Leave Her, Johnny, Leave Her

Have you seen those ships that are full of fiends
    Reavers, they are reavers
The scariest things I've seen since I weaned
Are those ships chock-full of reavers

    (Chorus:)
    B'lieve me, there are reavers
    Believe me, there are reavers
They are not just myth and they fill their ships
And you must beware of reavers

They'll rape and kill and take your skin
    Reavers, they are reavers
And that is why we can't let them win
All those ships chock-full of reavers

    (chorus)

Are they people who have seen the void?
    Reavers, they are reavers
Just like you and I, but their minds destroyed?
All those ships chock-full of reavers

    (chorus)

One tenth percent who received that Pax
    Reavers, they are reavers
They turned mindless brutes and did not relax
All those ships chock-full of reavers

    (chorus)

In the most fraught flight of Serenity
    Reavers, to the reavers
    They discovered, aired the obscenity
    That Alliance made the reavers

    (last chorus:)
Now all know there are reavers
    The Alliance made the reavers
Through their horrors braved, we have all been saved
Now we know the truth of reavers

Guessing a lyricist's opinions from his songs is as futile as
guessing an author's opinions from his novels.

    "Pain Grows Where Insanity Goes"
ttto "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes"
New lyrics by Jeff Urs 2006

    People say we're crazy
Because out there in space we
    Gazed upon eternity,
    And now pain grows
    Where insanity goes,
    And nobody knows
    Like me.

    But I'll tell ya, fella,
    It's 'cause we had a smell o'
Gas supposed to bring us peace
    That the pain grows
    Where insanity goes,
    And nobody knows
    Like me.

There's something about that mind-bending drug,
    Making people just shrug
    Till they've wasted away,
But me it's making madder than hell,
Till I shriek and I yell
And I just want to slay.

    Now we've caught you, baby,
It seems to me that maybe
    You'll be screaming endlessly,
    Because pain grows
    Where insanity goes,
    And nobody knows
    Like me.

    Yes, the pain grows
    Till your sanity goes,
    And nobody knows
    Like me.

Also nice, though it's been years (decades?) since I heard that
original. And it's good to see that not everyone used the same
    obvious tune I did.

Grammatical note: The preposition "like" takes the objective case, so it
should be "like you and me."

I was fairly sure that was the case, but I liked the sound of "I"
better. But if it's obvious enough to point out, it's obvious enough
that it should be changed. Thank you.

And you even managed to get your comment in before Dr. Whom did.
