• New filk: Crossword Puzzle Blues

The line starting with "Pele" seems correct when I count syllables,
but when I sing it, it seems the "and" should be removed. Use
    whichever works for you.

    Title: Crossword Puzzle Blues
ttto: I'll Never Fall In Love Again by Hal David & Burt Bacharach

What do you put for a Hydrox clone,
A three-part treat, or twisted cookie?
Well, unless you're an crossword rookie
    You'll know the answer's Oreo
    You'll know the answer's Oreo

Why must you know way-old movie stars?
    Asta's master and Bell portrayer,
Mrs. Charles or she who played her?
Are crosswords just for fogies now?
Are crosswords just for fogies now?

I'll tell you that there is some fun
New style clues with ingenious puns
But, oh, those cliches, I'll say, darling,
Make me so mad that they leave me snarling

Why are there gnus, emus, ibex, ewes
Why must you know poi, eddo, taro?
    Long-past cars like Olds Alero?
These are the worst of crosswordese
These are the worst of crosswordese

And do you know people from all sports?
At least it's not some flower's genus.
Pele, Ott, Orr, Lendl, and Venus
New clues for same old answers. Why?
This is affront we should decry!

There are probably enough too-common crossword words to make a whole
suite. At least with modern crosswords, we no longer need to know
that a 3-toed sloth is an ai.

And I'd always thought they had organic brains. :)

In Free Fall (comic strip) they don't make that distinction. One main
character is a wolf with a designer, but organic, brain. She's
considered to be an AI. She, and the more mechanical AIs, are
    Asenion.

I thought Ai was an interjection common to elves
    who had seen Balrogs.
