There was also Dylan's meeting with Marlon Brando and his friend Patricia Quinn, who Clinton Heylin writes about in his Double Life book, interestingly:

Yes, an article on this subject by Conrad scholar Allan H. Simmons appeared in 1995 in "The Conradian," a publication of the UK's Joseph Conrad Society. Titled "Read Books, Repeat Quotations: A Note on Possible Conradian Influences on Bob Dylan's 'Black
Diamond Bay'," the article explores connections between Conrad's 1915 novel and Dylan's 1976 song. Here are the first few paragraphs of Simmons' article.

"As those duplex Conradians who are lovers of both literature and rock
music will know, there is a connection between Joseph Conrad and Bob
Dylan. The purpose of this note is to share the connection with the
uninitiated by tracing it in the song 'Black Diamond Bay' and speculating
about its extent and die degree to which it is deliberate.

"One visible indication that there is a connection between Joseph
Conrad and Bob Dylan is the record sleeve of Bob Dylan's Desire LP
which displays, among other photographs, a reproduction of K. Gorski's
drawing of Conrad at Zakopane in 1914. Shortly after releasing Desire,
Dylan embarked upon a concert tour through New England, which was
recorded in the film, Renaldo and Clara. One of the film's script-writers,
Sam Shepard, wrote an account of the tour entitled Rolling Thunder
Logbook, in which he records a conversation with the reticent Dylan who
informs him simply: 'You should read Conrad.' The presence of Conrad
is further registered in the title of one of the songs, 'Black Diamond Bay',
which Dylan co-wrote with Jacques Levy. In Victory, Black Diamond Bay
is the name given by Heyst and Morrison to the natural harbour on
Samburan, the site of their coaling operation. Allen Ginsberg's
description of this song (in the essay 'Songs of Redemption', printed on
the record sleeve of Desire) emphasises its Conradian connection:

Black Diamond Bay's also a short novel in verse, oldfashioned Dylan
surrealist mind-jump inventions line by line except D. says he's reading
Joseph Conrad storyteller, so hear continuous succession of Panama Hat
Necktie details, exploding boilers & characters disappearing in tornados.

"Such evidence, confirming the connection between Conrad and Dylan
justifies a search for possible correlations between 'Black Diamond Bay'
    and Victory."

It is the lighter side of waiting for The Messiah... as opposed to waiting for the Old Testament Messiah in When The Ship Comes In.
