Following is my saintly Ma's recipe for Snickerdoodles.

    Preheat oven to 375.

    Sift together:
    2-3/4 C flour
2 tsp cream of tartar [or equivalent baking powder or other substitute]
    1/2 tsp salt

    Cream together:
    1 C shortening*
    1-1/2 C sugar
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    Add 2 eggs

    Add dry ingredients to wet.

Roll into round balls; roll in a mixture of:
    2 T sugar
    2 tsp cinnamon

Place on cookie sheet 2" apart.
Bake at 375 degree, 8-10 minutes.

    Makes 3 dozen

*I no longer have, or have misplaced, the 3x5 index card with the recipe written in her hand. I'm pretty sure she used Crisco shortening. Some people use butter. Either works.

    Take care,
    rdd
