Morgan Wallen has not followed through with his plans to meet
with the NAACP following his N-word controversy.
After the 28-year-old country singer was caught on camera by a
neighbor saying the N-word in February, his team reached out to
the NAACP to express interest in scheduling a meeting. Nashville
chapter president, Sheryl Guinn, shared publicly she would be
more than happy to sit down with Wallen and explain why the word
“is so hurtful.”
Unfortunately, TMZ reported on Saturday that Wallen and his team
dropped the ball on meeting with the NAACP after his blatant use
of the racist slur. Page Six has reached out to Wallen’s team
and the NAACP for further clarification, but has yet to hear
back.
Wallen did eventually apologize for his actions publicly in a 5-
minute video shared to his Instagram account nearly two weeks
after his neighbor’s video was released. While apologizing,
Wallen explained, “Our actions matter, our words matter and I
just want to encourage anyone watching to please learn from my
mistake.”
Just two days before news of Wallen bailing on the NAACP
Nashville chapter came out, the country star surprised fans with
a performance at Kid Rock’s Big Honky Tonk & Steakhouse in
Nashville. Videos showed the packed crowd welcoming Wallen back
to the stage, singing along as he performed two of his songs –
“Wasted on You” and “Whiskey Glasses.”
Choosing Kid Rock’s bar as his first stage following the
controversy may not have been Wallen’s best choice. Not only was
the bar shut down for five days in 2020 after violating
Nashville’s coronavirus health order, but the rock star has been
the center of his own controversies over the years.
