At least one arrest has been made in connection with human body
parts discovered last week in a park on Long Island, a source
close to the investigation told NBC New York on Tuesday.
Details on the suspect and the charges have not been released,
but two sources familiar with the matter told the news station
that investigators are looking into whether a love triangle was
the motive in the case.
The suspect allegedly chopped up his girlfriend and the man he
believed she cheated with, according to the two sources. It was
not immediately clear if other people helped the man dispose of
the bodies.
Homicide detectives searched a home on Railroad Avenue in
Amityville on Tuesday morning, NBC New York reported. The home
is about a 15-minute drive from Southards Pond Park in Babylon
Village, where six body parts were recovered.
State police confirmed they helped process another crime scene
in Bethpage State Park, a roughly 10-minute drive from Railroad
Avenue, in connection with the case, according to the news
station.
The Suffolk County Police Department declined to confirm the
arrest or the house search, writing in an email, “We don’t have
any updates on the case at this time.”
