The surname «Gatto», as is well known, is Italian, and the
pronunciation of the word in Italian is markedly different from the
anglophone one. The present geminated consonants (the two <t>s), as
well as the <a> and the <o>, have distinctly different pronunciations
in English.
As far as I know the English pronunciation in IPA should be
[ˈɡætoʊ] (please correct me if i'm wrong), while the Italian one is ['gatto].
You can appreciate the italian pronunciation in this MP3 of the
entry «gatto» (which means «cat» in English, as known) of the «Spelling and pronunciation dictionary» of Rai, the Italian public television:

Incidentally, the Italian pronunciation of «Commarota», Anthony Gatto's
real surname, also Italian, is [kommaˈrɔta].
