• Ithaca M 37 extraction troubles

From pheasant@21:1/5 to All on Tue Dec 15 09:53:18 2015
Model 37 12 gauge. circa early 50's. Buddy borrows to hunt with when
back from AK. Been giving him crap for years about his loads being hot,
so this year when he went back, decided to try it myself.

Sure enough. If you don't need a follow up shot, will pull the empties
out all day without issue. When you rack the slide quickly, seems the extractors must slip off as when the slide hits the back of it's travel
the second shell feeds, but first is still in chamber.

Shell rims have no marks from extractors or bulges in either the rim or
brass. AA hulls low brass trap load hulls.

Extractors upon visual inspection appear normal. Nothing worn, no gunk
    in or around them.

My normal shotgun is a 37 in 16 gauge, so know above is not normal
behavior for the old 12. First two shots were one shot as a 12 is like a
cannon compared to the 16. Third bird required a follow up, and it
managed to get away as I removed the barrel to clear the jam.

Have some ideas, but hope to hear from someone who has had this same
    issue with an Ithaca.

    Thanks
