# Ran across a curious serial number on a Browning BL-22 rifle. From what I
# understand, up until 1976 Browning used the year of manufacture as the first two
# digits of its serial numbers, followed by a letter model designation ("B" for # the BL-22s) followed by a production number. For example, a 1971 BL-22 serial # number would be "71Bxxxxx." After 1976 Browning changed to a completely
# different system using letter codes for dates.

# On this particular BL-22 the serial number is "47Bxxxxx." There is no way this
# gun could have possibly been made in 1947, these rifles weren't even produced # then. I'm thinking Browning accidentally transposed the 4 and 7 on this gun's
# serial number, and it is a 1974 model. Anyone else run across something like # this before?
My BL-22 is serial numbered 37BXXXXX, perhaps a 1973 ?
