I have been growing Hippeastrum since the late 1950s, moving the bulbs
from one house to the next. Currently, mine are in pots up on a table
and a counter outside, to keep them away from snails. In my climate,
they are outside all year.
I have never seen anything resembling a grub on them, but I have had
problems with whitefly and mealybugs. For those, I take a thin stick
and poke two holes in each pot and then fill the holes with Bayer 2-in-1 fertilizer with systemic insecticide.
