• Robotron Re-Set and Carpet pattern

From 3pinballs@21:1/5 to All on Fri Dec 6 08:59:23 2019
Having an issue - Game resets during play, goes to a carpet pattern. Sometimes It will no restart, it will have the screen almost lock up and flash.

Sometimes it will restart and make crazy sound noises.

So should I get new RAM for the game and install? Plus I have a NOS Peter Chou Power supply but if that won't work I can buy one from Arcade Shop but don't know if that's much better than the Peter Chou one.

P.S. I haven't run a test for the RAM lately, but did a few months back and everything was okay.

All input would be great, trying to get these up and running for Xmas.

    Thanks, Tony

    Hi Tony,

Peter Chou were great supplies, but if it is over twenty years old it
may be time to replace it due to capacitors aging out - even if NOS.

Is the 5VDC good at the board? It should be very close to 5.00VDC for
    optimum operation.

Leave the RAM test on for a while, but I tend to replace the 4116s with
4164s and making the mod to the MPU board to remove the -5 and +12 from
the power lines to the 4164s. You can't just plug them in place of the
original 4116s or they will be destroyed.

If you don't want to modify the MPU and you are not comfortable with
making an interconnect arcadeshop sells an adapter:

Had my tech over...He checked the voltage and it was slightly off. Left game on for a while like you said for RAM and ROM test and everything good.

He put in a better ground to power supply, plus the connection from Power supply to other wires weren't great so he fixed it.

Now working great....Bought the new power supply from Arcade Shop as a back up.

    Thx for your help. Tony
