You can use the roguelike keyset by hitting the '=' key, and changing the use roguelike keyset option in the user interface options(although this massively changes button layout). Also you could edit keymaps, define another key, buy a USB keypad, or use
a third party software to create a keymap. These are options I had to go explore when I had a laptop without a numpad when I was jonesing for Zangband.

Also, The end, pgup, pgdn and home keys work, if you have those.

In the settings, switch the control scheme to the Roguelike. This places movement on an alternate cluster of keys, yuhjklbn. Hit ? to see other differences between the original Angband control scheme, and the alternate Roguelike scheme.

Check whether you have NUMLOCK on or off.

I'm afraid there is no NUMLOCK. Shall we say off?

I have no idea if this will help, but I just used the query keymap in
4.2.5 on the 7/Home key on my keyboard. It returned

    ;7

You could try setting keymaps for whichever keys to ; followed by the
numbers from 1 to 9. The exception is the stay still 5 key which does
not return ;5, but instead appears to return a comma: ,
There's no easy way to see whether there are trailing spaces.

I have it set to the roguelike keyset now. Using this option just made 4.2.5 playable for me.

What about the conflicts? For example, 'l' says in command list that it
is used to look, and doing some research it appears that this is the way
to search for secret doors, but I'm using 'l' to move east. How do I
search for secret doors if control scheme is roguelike? I know that
there are secret doors because a warrior and a ranger both found some on
    their own without explicitly searching.

You don't need to look. If you find a secret door walking around there
is a reason for it. Everything happens for a reason. Go down that
corridor and find a secret door.
