Empire Enthusiasts
A new, themed long-term game is in the works, tentatively 1-Oct to 30-Nov. The game is being developed by a team of seasoned players/deities/developers. Stay tuned at rec.games.empire for sporatic, infrequent and unreliable updates.
"What theme?", I hear you ask. Well, the theme is still under wraps, but if you know the solution to "R+L=J", you might be able to guess.
Visitor ... from outer space...
Announcement from 3, (#3) dated Sun Jun 5 05:40:46 2016
R + L = J ... hmmm
could it be:
Right + Left = Jupiter ?
Right + Left = Jinx ?
Right + Left = Joined ?
Right + Left = Jesus ?
Announcement from visitor, (#9) dated Fri Jun 10 22:14:52 2016
Different visitor here.
R = Riverworld (That would be harmless as the deity)
L = Lord of the Rings. I never played in those. That might be Mithrillian
J = Well, okay, I am clueless here. It's anybody's guess.

Finally!! *Phew*
We have reclaimed our land that was taken over by 2's aggression
many moons ago. Our people have been freed from the oppression.
And just for good measure, we may just proceed to kick 2 off
the island as he doesn't seem to the sharing kind.
Announcement from 3, (#3) dated Thu Jun 16 15:18:33 2016
The island is now fully under our control (except for the mountain).
To keep the momentum going, 2 was kicked off another island.
2 lost a dozen or so planes and about half a dozen units.
Hope 2 hasn't thrown in the towel...

1 sacked!
and that's a wrap, folks!

Three is indeed the ruler of the known world
and many future worlds to come.
I remain Ugly
Announcement from 3, (#3) dated Wed Jun 29 18:47:27 2016
The game started off with 1 quickly building the biggest fleet along
with an army to match and went on an exploring binge. This was quite successful for 1 in the beginning. After a few updates, 1 had the
most sectors, 2 started gun production and 3 seemed to have reached
the end of its discovery phase.
3 stirred the pot first by taking out 1 from their shared island.
It seems the timing of the attack was fortuitous for 3 as 1 seemed
to be AWOL and didn't respond immediately. 3 took advantage of
this and grabbed a few more islands from 1.
At the same time, sensing 3's preoccupation with 1, 2 attacks 3
and claims the island that was shared between them. 3 tries to
defend but is quickly removed from the island. Meanwhile, 1
returns from his sojurn and reclaims one of the islands from 3
to let him know that this is not going to be a walkover.
1 continues to discover new land and still has the largest army.
However, due to the emphasis on exploration, 1 is also quickly
burning out his cash.
At the end of first week 3 has the yellow jersey having the
lead in tech, population and sectors, but is at war with both 1 and 2.
It seems that 1 and 2 have discovered each other, but have declared
a truce between themselves. Faced with a war on two fronts, 3
stops his gold production and shifts to producing more iron ore.
2 has the biggest war chest as well a sizeable lead in armaments.
1 seems to be struggling to maintain a balance between the yearning
for exploration and cash flow.
The second week begins with skirmishes between 2 and 3 on
new land (always) resulting in 3 being booted off the islands
in question. 2 starts building his aerial fleet and 3 tries to
keep pace. 3 realizes that things are beginning to look ominous
for him in his fight against 2. 3 builds an aerial fleet and
launches a pre-dawn attack on the island that 2 had initially
taken from 3. The attack is swift and brutal and seems a little
Announcement from 3, (#3) dated Wed Jun 29 18:47:34 2016
unexpected by 2. There are heavy losses for 2, losing a dozen
planes and half a dozen units. 3 reclaims the island and 2
throws in the towel. 3 continues onward and sacks 2's capital
enroute to taking over his mainland.
1 continues to struggle managing his army and cash flow but senses
that 2 is out helps himself to some of the nearby lands.
3 is now firmly in control of the game with a sizeable armada and
moves slowly towards 1. 1 attempts to hold out, but in the end,
3 rolls into 1's mainland, sacks his capital and takes out his
life support (by taking his bank).
It was an absorbing game as 3 was battling against 2 opponents
almost from the beginning. The key moment of the game was when
3 dealt the major blow to 2 taking out his forts, planes and units.
2 caved in and it was smooth sailing for 3 thereafter.
1 is definitely improving game on game and
it is only a matter of time before he will be on the podium.
Good game to all!
