• First Powder Ascension, "battle Mage" (aka cleric)

From artistic109@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Fri Sep 1 08:51:52 2017
I think I encountered a similar issue where if you are in the polymorph control menu, then enter a different app on the iOS version, it'll delete your save and you'll be stuck with your most recent save scum.

As for Pax-only runs, I find the early game to be the trickiest until you level up a few times. Seriously, if anyone can manage to survive the early game with Pax WITHOUT endure hunger, I'd be quite impressed. Alternatively, I suppose one could instead
start out with Belweir and attempt to get dig/stone-to-flesh/healing spells, but that still makes the early game dangerous as you need about 2 levels to be able to cast S.t.F..

My favorite thing to do in Pax runs is to revive iron golems to use as bodyguards, especially when you give said golems regeneration by wearing the Cleric outfit and give the golems stuff like flaming swords/staves/summoning spells/wizard outfit to clear
    out monsters.

So far, I don't think I've finished a Pax run where Pax stayed appeased until the very end. In one run, on my way up I possessed a pesky soul sucker and made it soul suck a nearby lich, completely forgetting that soul suck is, in fact, a forbidden death
    spell.

In another run, I gave my entire 'crew' (consisting of 2 iron golems and a daemon which knew summon daemon) fire and acid resistance, then blasted Baezl'bub (and virtually everything else in the dungeon) with corrosive explosion casted on a large pile of
junk. Doing so caused Baezl'bub to evaporate, and I got a level up. In the level up screen, I noticed that my piety points with Pax had dropped to around 30-10, despite it being around 500-1000 a moment before. After the explosion finally finished, my
piety with Pax was well into the negatives (like -300-400, I think). I assume what happened was that despite all of my pets being invulnerable to the explosion, it still counted as an attack on a non-hostile monster, plus there was an angry gelatinous
cube that I can only assume was having a very lovely day until a rude adventurer exploded all of its non-acid-resistant friends.

But in the end, it's always preferable to end a run with an explosion or two, even if it means pissing off the divine forces or whatever.

If you must reply to these ancient articles, which most of us can't see,
it might be useful to include some quoted text for context. (It's useful anyway...)

I will quote the original (to what artistic109 replied) just for you to

So, my first POWDER ascension. I'm vaguely upset that I've been playing rogue likes for something like 15 years and didn't stumble over POWDER until now. Took about two weeks. I've had more promising characters lost due to strange save fails. If (L)
ooking and exit, crash-loss. Horribly annoying. But Party did not get lost to a crash, as Pissed and others did. Pissed so named after the last crash loss. Aaanywaaay...

I didn't find any particularly useful artifacts. Even my nice artifact sandals (should be epic for Cleric) were mostly useless due to the unavailability of alternate speed sources. I kept hoarding enchants until the end, when I realized that there are
27 levels and not 30, and it was time to enchant. My decent armor and my two decent one-hands were found in 23-26. My only book of divination was found on 27. Go figure. I sure burned a lot of poly/mana to not get one. Thankfully ID scrolls were common
enough. I think I may have had 5! Even one left over at the end. Spears that strangle and other useless junk were left in Tridude storage.

The silver spear of suck was my only tele control, and thus stayed with me. A magnificent potion of resistances and invisibility was quaffed to down boss B. The wand of water-walking and speed was nice, the three shots allowing me to kick around B with
max speed and no worries. Spells were minimal but highly useful, majnly teleport for critical position control and escape.

    Critical strategies:
Edit) restart until book of H'ruth. Because it's just stupid to depend on luck for Endure Hunger on a Pax guy. I took too many H'ruth levels failing to please Pax early as it is!
    1) carrying spare cleric gear and sleeping into Pax's favor behind the walls. Truly, Party slept his way to the top. Never broke Pax's rules, though occasionally I bumped neutrals and had to get rid of them.
    2) using a lightly enchanted earth hammer to proceed mid-game. I'm grateful for the ability to create your own pseudo-artifacts. It makes the game playable when luck does not favor you.
    3) holy water propagation. Dip your stack of water pots into your holy water pot. BLESS ALL THE THINGS. It cleans the inventory so nicely. Pax not required.
    4) speed dancing. Otherwise, things can suck.
    5) having fun with resurrecting iron golems, etc.. Even though they often go jump up and down in an acid pit or literally have to be chain-fetched to the exit as they sprint away. Turning earthies to flesh blobs even though you can kill them, cause B
    needs his treats.
    6) killing all the MFing enemies. But be smart about it. Chain lightning made some (3?) fights less tedious. I got very bored of B (remember, no good damage artifacts) so I lured him into a carved out room and BBQ'd him. Then I resurrected him and
healed him, leaving him in charge of MY DUNGEON. Also orc mob on Klaskov. Chain gang!
    7) try on shoes early and find speed or jump, goes for any build.

My best luck was early amulets. All kinds, which I distinguished by not wearing the 2 stacked ones. Because duh, those are cursed strangulations. I dual-wielded the better dagger and mace at the end. Most of my artifacts were life-saved, and I didn't
die, so useless. Then all weapons had shock resistance, then armor that gives life save plus vulnerabilities, etc.. All hanging tight in tridude land. Some staff I found on 27. Ahh, so useful, dunno what it even is. I'll read the dump.

Final notes: thanks so much for the game, Jeff! I hope you can buy a candy bar or something with whatever Apple shares. You deserve more than the full $10.
Aforementioned crash bugs when minimizing on ipad. Telepathy literally appears to have no effect whatsoever. And I have enough experience now to know. Also, Pax should be a better god, bless your equipment fairly frequently or something.

    A dump...
