• Card Game 101

In Clementsville, Casey County, KENTUCKY, we play a card game known there as 101 but it is nothing like what I see described here. I guess it is similar to Rook, whereas the players bid for a kitty. Top score for one hand is 36. It is played by 4 people.
First to reach a score of 101 is the winner.

Does anyone know where I can find the rules for playing an old card
game called 101? The gist of the game is to go out with the lowest
score. When one goes over 101,he has to pay the kitty? Thanks.

YES - I played it back in 1979 and if you still want to know how I played it contact me

The 101 my Granda showed us started with everyone having 101 points, and was like gin rummy, everyone is dealt 7 cards, the dealer 8, dealer changes each completed hand passing round the players clockwise or anti-clockwise -doesn't matter. Dealer starts
by discarding a card they think they hope they don't need. Then from there on each player picks a card from deck, keeps what they think will give them a winning hand then puts one out in centre pile etc etc. You have to get a hand like -4,5,6. or 10,j,q,
    k. or 3 of a kind or 4 of a kind. And the main point is not to get caught with cards in your hand, especially high number cards, because the card numbers are all added up for the losers and taken off their 101, the player with points at end of game wins.
You can either keep all your cards in your hand, even when you have 4,5,6. or 3 or 4 of a kind or put them down when u have like 10,J,Q. or 3 or 4 of a kind so u don't get caught with those high scoring cards or hold em and try and catch everyone else
out with more cards/points. But u might get caught out by someone else doing the same. U have to be able to throw 1 down at the end of ur hand. U can even add your cards to someone elses displayed hand which they have put down, like someone has put down
9,10,j. You can put down an 8 or q on their hand only if you're finishing your hand. Like you have 3 kings, 7,8,9. put down a card on someone elses displayed hand, then place your last card in the centre out pile.

Do you still have the rules? This was a favorite game of my parents and we have been trying to remember the rules for years!

Okay so my family play 101: Everyone gets 7 cards face down. Don't show anyone your cards!! Whoever is right to the dealer goes first. They put down a card and you have to follow suit or change it by the same number. E.g: I put down a king of clubs,
someone else puts a 2 of clubs and then a person puts a 2 of spades down; you have to put down a spade. If you don't have a spade, pick up a card from the deck and see if it matches. If not, keep it with your cards. Cards: 2 = lowest, 7 = next person
picks up 2 new cards, Jack = change suit, Ace = highest and if there are 2 players they go again but with 3+ the next player misses a go.Jack = 15 points. Ace = 11. King = 10. Queen = 10. Whoever gets rid of all of their cards first says 'chip.' Put down
everyone's names and add up their cards. The winner gets 0. If you get to 101+ you're out and everyone else carries on playing!!
