    I'm not sure I'd put it ahead of Cribbage or gin in depth, but it is
    isn't far behind, and it is much quicker to teach/learn than Cribbage.

    The best variant of Cassino is Draw Cassino this is where you draw a card from the stock each time you play a card so your hand always contains four cards except when the stock is depleted and you play out your final four cards.

    Draw Cassino is much better than Cassino (the mother game) in terms of skill as it allows you to keep hold of the point cards until you can play them to your advantage whereas in the mother game they would just be dumped on to the table as you have to
    play out your four card hand so that you can be dealt a new four card hand. Other than the draw aspect of the game all other features of the mother game remain.

    In my opinion, Draw Cassino holds its own with Gin Rummy and Cribbage.

    Love it, and yes new to usenet.

    Same here, and the second one is an off-topic answer. (-;

    (BTW, the "resurrection" of antique posts seems to be a Google Groups
    issue.)

    Love it, and yes new to usenet.

    Coming back to the question of the original post (a little bit of
    rejuvenation cannot hurt here), I can highly recommend Schnapsen, kind
    of a mini-bridge for two, a great and sophisticated trick-taker. See

    http://schnapsen.psellos.com/

    It even has its own (superb, I have it here) book

    http://psellos.com/schnapsen/blog/2015/09/book.html

    which usually is a sure sign of a non-trivial game.

    Best regards
