My family played a game called Crazy Rummy that you collected cards as listed below:

    # of CARDS GROUPING
    6 2 sets
    7 1 run, 1 set
    8 2 runs
    9 3 sets
    10 1 set. 1 run of 7
    11 2 runs, 1 set
    12 3 runs OR
    12 4 sets, NO DISCARD
    13 3 sets, 1 run
    14 1 set, 1 run of 11
    15 5 sets
    16 4 runs OR
    16 4 sets, 1 run

It's weird, but I have NO memory of the # of decks or the play. I did find
info about a rummy game, but I don't know if was with the above info of # of cards. I'll share it & if you can figure it out & can play, let me know. My older sister passed away this past month & was my only living relative was unable to remember.

Maybe others will share & when the "How To" is solved put out the word & hopefully we will be able to revive a fun family game!

Presently I play Hand & Knee with friends & Dominoes. I got my son & daughter's spouse & 3 grans playing Chicken Foot, one variety of dominoes.

Contact me if this helps. Cyndy Duggins, Aiken SC

This is a variant of the game called Contract Rummy. It is similar to the commercially available game Phase 10.
Incidentally, Contract Rummy is also sometimes called 'May I?' because it has a unique feature that any discard is available to any other player, starting with the discarder's left.
