• Passing of Jim Burgess

From nfitz@sentex.ca@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 3 09:55:11 2017
It is with sadness that I return briefly to rec.games.diplomacy to post about the passing of James "Jim-Bob" Burgess last week.

Jim came from the postal community, and has been publishing a postal zine since the mid-1980s. Most notably was his zine "The Abyssinian Prince" which over the years migrated from paper to PDF and HTML, with the last 20 years of issues available at http:/
/www.diplomatic-pouch.org/Postal/Zines/TAP/ - including the final issue #384 out a few weeks ago. Jim's battle with cancer is described in the last few issues.

Jim was also one of early adopters to pbem community in the mid-1990s, and has been hanging around rec.games.diplomacy almost since it's inception, to long after most of us thought it was long gone. In fact, Google reports he was by far the most prolific
    poster here - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!aboutgroup/rec.games.diplomacy

There's more information about his passing on the Diplomacy World Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/67101107783/ including his obituary that was printed yesterday in a local newspaper - http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/providence/obituary.

A funeral will take place in Rhode Island on July 15

I met him once at a convention when I was a new player. He was kind to me.
