  • Starsfaq.com - Minor Update

    Hello rgcs!

    Just discovered a couple of unanswered Stars! related emails lost in my inbox. Only a small time warp between receiving them and answering them! Hope to do better next time.

    The first was a reminder about Thousand Parsec's being an abandoned project. This inspired me to do a quick review of the www.starsfaq.com website, update the News section (everybodys dead dave), add a few new links, personal commentary, and remind
    people that full list of serials and binaries exist on the downloads page, as it safe to call Stars! abandonware (everybodys dead dave).

    I have also cleaned up the external links section. Stars Autohost and the Stars Directory are still running, as for the rest (everybody's dead dave), I've managed to get a few back on holographic life support via archive.org. Starsfaq.com is now also on
    Github.

    The second email was offering to make a token "thank you" donation for creating the Packet Location Calculator, that I had completely forgotten ever existed, yet it still has a userbase. (Not Dead Yet). My first attempt at a C++ windows desktop utility,
    written 12 years ago when I was still living at home and learning to program. Source code was still in the hosted zip, so I've now uploaded it to Github, despite the fact I no longer have the tools to recompile it (everybodys dead dave).

    I really do enjoy receiving emails like this, reminding me that forgotten work is still doing good in the world.

    Not sure if anybody still reads rgcs, I don't (everybodys dead dave), but thank you all for your years of support, encouragement and feedback, to create starsfaq.com in 2000 and Packet Location Calculator in 2003. This was my very first public website
    and I have since gone on to do many great things as a professional computer programmer. You may even have seen my work at ft.com or premierleague.com, but it all started here!
