_Windows 10 Now Installed on a Nintendo Switch_
Project still in its early days, but advancing quickly
Installing other operating systems on the Nintendo Switch seems to be
the next big challenge for developers across the world, and after successfully deploying Android and Linux, someone now managed to port
Windows 10 to the gaming console.
@imbushuo, who has previously supported the work on bringing Windows
10 for ARM on the Lumia 950 XL, is now working on installing the same operating system on the Nintendo Switch.
Screenshots of his work reveal that the operating system can indeed be deployed on the device, though for now, it hits a fatal crash and
booting fails with a Blue Screen of Death error.
Certainly, these are just issues that will be addressed very soon, so
it’s probably just a matter of time until Windows 10 for ARM will be
fully functional on the device. Nintendo Switch itself comes with an
ARM chipset, which means that running the ARM-based version of Windows
10 on it should technically be possible with a custom UEFI firmware
and the right drivers.
“Not quite useful right now. Capable to boot something from SD card
(need cold boot sequence). Then Windows Kernel chokes with the current
memory region,” the developer explains.

However, what will be interesting to discover is the actual benefit of installing Windows 10 on the Nintendo Switch, especially because such
a port is unlikely to boost the gaming capabilities in any way.
Needless to say, only time will tell how the work on this project
advances, but such ideas usually receive the support for more
developers across the world, as it happened in the case of the Android
port a few months ago.
The UEFI firmware that is used for running Windows 10 for ARM on the
Nintendo Switch is available on GitHub for anyone who wants to support
the idea and contribute to the development of the port.
