• How big are your basilisks?

From JG@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jan 8 16:46:14 2021
I always assumed basilisks were... larger. Maybe cow sized?

But I have this project of getting all the monsters from the manual as miniatures, and lately I found a few of the crop of official DnD minis
    on clearance.

...making those nearly the only 5th ed things I have bought so far...

In any case I was quite happy with their looks, until I got to the basilisk. Which is absolutely tiny.
    Here's someone's comparison picture. https://maledrakh.files.wordpress.com/2020/09/200925-nolzurs-w11-basilisk-conan.jpg

This lead to me frantically leafing through a few books and figuring out
    that

    a. this thing is still too small
    b. basilisks actually aren't that much bigger in the actual rules (their
main body without tail should be man-sized)

But how big are they in your head?

From memory, they are lizard like, so same size as a medium to large dog,
    but with shorter legs.

About the size of an ottoman.

Maybe mastiff sized. I never imagined them as being overly large.

They're about 7' long in 1e, but still considered medium. That mini is definitely too
short unless it's a younger one, it's weirdly chunky too.

Not according to mythology, rather it's from chicken/rooster to dog sized. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilisk
(ignore the one picture of a biscione, it's got nothing to do with
    basilisks IMHO)

which is large for a "real" basilisk. Maybe because they want a bigger difference to the cockatrice.

But how big are they in your head?

S, like a dog perhaps, german shepherd at the most.

NWN1 defined a lot of this stuff for me. So, large alligator-ish.
