• Long and weird mutual backgame

From Axel Reichert@21:1/5 to All on Fri Dec 29 10:52:52 2023
    Hello,

yesterday during a 9-point match I played a long game against GNU
Backgammon. It took 101 moves per player (by the way, it seems that in
the "Game record" panel there is space reserved only for two-digit
numbers, so the final two moves are numbered as "00" and "01").

At some point both players had 3 anchors, later on GNU Backgammon had 4
anchors against my 2, and still later all but one checker were on my
side of the board. While the starting position has a pip count of 2 x
167 = 334, we managed to get to 517 pips in total. The maximum pip count
for one player was 321, and the maximum pip lead for one player was
    212.

Pretty extreme. For such a weird game I did quite well by my standards
and lost only 16 millipoints per unforced move (that should roughly be
    PR 8).

For the record, here is the record (make a Snowie match file from
it). There are some big swings in the game. (-:

Your true performance might be even better than what the bot says it is.
I would not trust the bot's opinions of all the decisions in such a
game. Here's a game played by XG 3-ply. XGR+ said that XG 3-ply had a
    PR of 17.41!

    Impressive! Or rather not. (-;

Depending on the position, I wouldn't necessarily trust a rollout
either. See this discussion on BGOnline for example.
