    I'll kick it off - opponent rolls first and makes his move, if I roll 5-5 first up I still pause and think about what move to make even though 13-8(2), 8-3(2) is the only one available.

    It depends on what your opponent played on their first move.

    Jeremy Bagai has this to say about an opening reply of 55:

    Fives: Play 8/3(2) 6/1(2) if hitting on 3 or 1 points, otherwise 13/3(2).

    And actually, pausing before playing any doubles is a good habit to have.

    I don't understand why this is stupid. Surely it's never stupid
    to pause and think when you have plenty of time?
