• Can Snowie make a comeback..?

From MK@21:1/5 to All on Fri Aug 18 01:46:25 2023
I just saw on a Facebook BG group that someone
started a thread about "improved features people
would want in an updated XG or a new software".

It may have been intended as a candid question in
general but most comments are about Ex-Gee, as
would be expected and more so nowadays because
of recent rumors. Such discussions, (intentionally
or not), may be good market research for potential
buyers/improvers of Ex-Gee or other existing bots,
and for potential developers of completely new bots.

I also recently saw some comments on the Noo-BG
mailing list about completely rewriting it, (oxymoron),
in Rust, by separating it into an AI and a UI modules,
so that users can mix and match various AI's and UI's.

Considering how slow and incapable the past/present
Noo-BG developers have been and how uninviting they
have been to new and possibly more skilled volunteers,
I don't believe that we'll see any considerably improved
version or variant of Noo-BG anytime soon.

    What about other bots?

Jellyfish has been way too obsolete, for way too long
by now. Its website ceased to exist eons ago. Nobody
even mentions it for other than historical purposes.

Snowie, on the other hand, is still alive like a cherished
grandparent in a retirement home who still has visitors.
Users still value its advice and occasionally compare
with other bots' analyses. Its website is still up. See:

    http://www.bgsnowie.com/

They're not maintaining the bot but they still do respect
and provide email support to their customers who had
paid $400 for it. It was also good of them to eventually
make it freeware a few years ago. You can download
the latest full professional version and register for free.

So, I'm wondering if Snowie can make a comeback..?
At $60 for new customers, $30 for existing customers
and for Ex-Gee users who trade in their license keys... :)

Probably Oasya wouldn't be interested in reviving it but
others could. If the source code could be bought for a
garage sale bargain price, let's say $100-200K vs $1-2M
that Ex-Gee may be asking, or with no upfront purchase
but for something like 20% of profits for 10 years, it may
well be a viable venture because it's still good enough to
be worth improving for speed, strength and new features,
(even if that requires more effort for it than for Ex-Gee,
because of the smaller initial investment that would be
required for it than for Ex-Gee).

If a taker steps up, I want my brokerage commission... ;)
