This position hardly reinforces Bob's theme!
Bob (if I understand him correctly) is making the point (unfortunate
unintended double meaning) that we don't always get the safest bearoff
    by filling in inner points.

However, you say that you are giving a similar situation, but you
present a position where filling in is in fact the safest.
(Look at the percentage of games won by the favourite).

However, we don't fill in because we don't get enough gammons that way.
So this position shows the anti-DMP theme of sacrificing positions
and decreasing wins but compensating for it with gammons made.
In money play, many find this type of sacrifice difficult to make and
cashing when TG is another example akin to missing greedy bearoffs.
    Not related to Bob's theme.

However, your subsequent (deleted) variantization was indeed relevant
    and thematically similar.
Thank you for all your variantizations and posts whether relevant or not.

Thanks, Tim, for the additions. My first impulse to post was just motivated by how unusual it is to bring two checkers right past a gap that looks like it was made for them, regardless of whether it is for safety or gammon purposes. Our backgammon
hindbrains just see that spot and say "what a great roll for those checkers to come in with and land!" then look at the usual next step, move in from the back. But yes, as Paul said, safety is the theme here.

Tim's second position is interesting to me in particular because it neatly fits advice from Michi's book, Endgame Technique. The correct move in this position is pretty obvious when you look at the serious consequences of playing wrong, but his advice to
create a gap against a three-point anchor if it leads to a "zero position", namely one that is safe for the next roll, is germane and works. It's a very good book with some novel material.

Nice one. Once you realize that leaving interior gaps is not
always a bad thing, you'll start to notice that such situations
crop up more frequently than you might think. Below are a couple

This position hardly reinforces Bob's theme!
Bob (if I understand him correctly) is making the point (unfortunate unintended double meaning) that we don't always get the safest bearoff
    by filling in inner points.

In money play, many find this type of sacrifice difficult to make and cashing when TG is another example akin to missing greedy bearoffs.
    Not related to Bob's theme.

However, your subsequent (deleted) variantization was indeed relevant
    and thematically similar.
Thank you for all your variantizations and posts whether relevant or not. They are always interesting.

Thanks, Tim, for the additions. My first impulse to post was just motivated by how unusual it is to bring two checkers right past a gap that looks like it was made for them

Is there a way to see this position for those who don't have XG software. There used to be a way to set the font to courier but it doesn't seem to be available anymore on google groups
