I was able to make a sudden and dramatic improvement in my PR by one
very simple change. I used to dislike moving a blot to the 18 point
and subjecting myself to triple or quadruple shots.
I now have realised that these plays tend to be fine unless the opponent
as a 4 point board or stronger. The point is that the opponent either misses or spends resources on the hit that divert them from good plays elsewhere.
Being far less scared to move to the 18 point just made a massive and immediate difference. And I seem to have hit the sweet spot immediately. It's not like I'm doing this too often either.
I'm sure Tim has written about these plays before, but I wouldn't want
to spend the (massive amount of) time digging up that thread.
