I wouldn't call this a backgame. Not enough timing and O still has four checkers to bring around. "Mutual holding game" is more like it.

And since it looks like a holding game, I'm not going to volunteer a
shot. 13/6 for me, although Pottling with 22/15 looks sound and may be best.

Here, 13/6 looks plausible, but XG favors either jumping a checker
over O's prime with 22/15 (despite being 30 pips down after the roll)
    or the odd-looking 13/8 6/4. Actually, I think I understand the
rationale behind 13/8 6/4---X is playing a two-way game, meaning that
he can fall back on a backgame if necessary, and can afford to play aggressively. It's 22/15 that still looks odd to me, since I would
think that X wants to keep that back anchor for more contact.

~30 pips of timing does not a backgame make. So, I'd say no. If X hits another checker (which may or may not be correct) it could turn into
one. Most likely it will turn into a 3 or 4 point holding game.

But since X may not want to hit, O may not want to hit either (where
"want" is what XG would do, not necessarily the patzer across the
board). That gives X the opportunity to run off the anchor, so I'll do
that. Not sure it's right, but up by ~30 pips I want (in the normal
sense of the word) to press the race advantage. 20/14.

I have no strong opinion about whether this is a backgame. Regardless,
X's position is currently rather inflexible, but he does have the golden anchor, so now is a reasonable time to make a bid for better structure.
The bot play of 13/8 6/5 risks a lot of shots, but unless O rolls 11 or
22, she will have to break a point to hit, giving X ample opportunity to counterattack, at a moment when O's board isn't very strong and she
already has two blots lying around. And of course, if O doesn't hit,
then X has excellent chances of making his 5pt and thereby significantly improving his position.
