The apps are based on ActiveX controls, a great Microsoft invention that revolutionized the virtual world. The controls run in Internet Explorer only. That was not bad, really. When it all started, Internet Explorer commanded 95% of the market in the
early 2000s!
Alas! “O tempora! O mores!” Internet Explorer has collapsed to the doldrums ever since. Not to mention, the Internet has fought extremely hard against ActiveX controls. Such useful utilities are barely, barely allowed by the “modern” browsers!!!
Notwithstanding, my aforementioned webpage has always been popular. Pundits know how to circumvent the earth of involution; i.e., backward evolution.
If you don’t know how, I give you tips. It ain’t hard. But I urge you to do this before 2022, when Microsoft really — really — kills Internet Explorer. Without a shred of a doubt, it is the greatest browser ever created — ever!
• These ActiveX controls still run online in Internet Explorer 11 and also under Microsoft Edge.
• First, add SALIU.COM to Trusted sites in Internet Explorer Settings. • Next, you accept the installation of the two controls. No worries, my ActiveX controls are absolutely safe; they've been around since the early 2000s.
• Click the Tools gear on Internet Explorer (IE) bar; click Compatibility View settings. You should be able to see and run the two ActiveX controls.
• Microsoft Edge always asks you to leave IE and load the pages in the new browser. Do not accept (close the dialog).
• Open Edge Settings, then ‘Default browser’, then ‘Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode’; select option ‘Allow’.
• Copy the link to the page you see in the address bar (
https://saliu.com/calculator_generator.html) and copy it to the section ‘Internet Explorer mode pages’. You can add other pages as well (e.g.,
https://saliu.com/online_odds.html and
https://
saliu.com/generator.html you also find on my site).
• Restart the Edge browser; reopen the page with my ActiveX controls. The great apps run correctly on my computer (on other people's PCs as well). See screenshot.
