Ok, I did a quick read of the rules on Spanish 21 and here's my quick take on how I'd change my BJ strategy based on changing payoffs, rules, and variance.

    1. I'd be a little more aggressive hitting 6,7 vs a low dealer card
    2. I'd be a little more aggressive hitting a suited 7,7 vs a low dealer card. 3. I'd only double down on 11 because of the removed 10 cards and also because if I just hit say a 9, I could then get a 2 and then still double down. Any 10 would just be a standard hit unless the deck was really positive.

I can't remember which BJ book posted the exact percentage of edges on player vs dealer on double downs, but I'd find that and then subtract 4 10s and re-calculate the odds and check to see when and if I should ever be double downing if I was going to
take this game serious. I think I had BJ software once that could do this....remove certain cards and re-calculate the odds.
Removing the 10 cards does crazy things to your DD percentages because you start every game with a real count of -4. That really limits when you should be doubling down.....you might even have to limit your DD's to 11 vs 4, 5, 6 or something similar
unless the count gets better, but I haven't factored in the additional 21 payoffs which I know will change that a little bit.

In fact, starting out the game with a -4 count means you can really loosen up your hitting with stiffs. Now that I think about it, you'd always hit a 12 against any card, and you'd also hit a 13 against any card and including the 5,6 if it goes to a -5
    count. A 14, you'd hit against a 2 with -4, and even a against a 3,4 with a -6count.
I'm too lazy to figure it out now, but my gut says you'll really want to limit your DD variance with these big negative real counts. Even in regular BJ, I'd give up a little edge in order to limit my variance by tightening up my DD standards.
I'd have to study more, but the increased 21payoffs and double with any cards might really change your soft ace double strategy...might be funner to try and just hit your way to 21 or hit your way to 11 and then double....if you should even double at
all...and I can't recall the DD charts, but I'm pretty sure you are gonna wanna even limit the times you DD with 11 based on the starting -4 real count.
Maybe I'll buy a book on spanish 21 sometime....perhaps they don't sweat that game as much....and also, I've found there is value in having extreme counts either way...in that if you are counting and it's really negative, you can keep hitting jesus off
the cross. I remember once at the Frontier many years ago on single deck...nothing but big cards came out at first, so for some reason, the dealer maybe wasn't paying attention and dealt a third hand from the deck....I had a stiff 16 and the dealer had
a 6 up...but the count was insanely negative so I knew there was mostly low cards left in her hand so I had to take a hit. I hit a 6..only low card that could bust me....and then she rolled over a 9 and hit a 7 and busted, so I saved the entire table.
    Was kinda crazy.

Oh man, you are firing up the memories now.

Surrender 17 vs an Ace, automatic. But NOBODY, (but me), does it. The dealers always looked surprised and give me the fish eye.

17 is a shit hand, especially against an Ace. Like I said, you should surrender the first two cards if it is 17 vs an Ace. After the first two cards, if you make 17 against an Ace, even a 6-card 17 against an Ace, HIT IT. That will really piss people
off. (until you spike a 4, then they can go fuck themselves). In fact, if you do spike a 4 to a 6-card 17, you will get paid 3-1 for a 7-card 21.

Catch a mixed 8 and you get paid 3-2. 6,7,8 suited pays 2-1. 6,7,8 of spades pays 3-1.

    2. I'd be a little more aggressive hitting a suited 7,7 vs a low dealer card.

    777 mixed pays 3-2. 777 suited pays 2-1. 777 of spades pays 3-1.

If you hit 77 suited, any suit, and the dealer has a 7 showing, any 7, and you catch a third 7 of the suit you started with, you get paid $5000.

Maybe they don't do this anymore, but many years ago if you hit a hard 17, they'd have to call it out loud to the floor at some places. Getting paid on 21 pushes I'm guessing adds some value to hitting stiffs as it is. So, I'd really have to study
the value different of hitting versus surrendering on a number of permutations.

And, ya, I believe it with dealers. Most dealers suck. They particularly suck at games they don't rotate into often. And, certain dealers suck in different ways. I'm stereotyping here, but in my experience you take some blonde haired, blue eyed woman
dealing....she already thinks she's too high class to deal, is bored as hell, and if you chat her up, she can easily misread her hand when it comes to flushes in Ultimate Texas Hold'em...or I've seen way worse on the BJ tables. I've seen blondes hit
their own hard 18, make 28, and pay off the table. I've seen them pay off 4 or 5 card 22's when you just tuck your cards and act like you didn't bust. I've noticed very old white men dealing seem to have many ticks and tells...and some are aware of
this and will occasionally try to mislead you. A few dealers try to count the cards while they deal and sometimes get way obvious when they get mixed up with the count and totally pause the game while they try to figure it out again. The thing I
hate the most...and I've seen numerous times...is old asian female dealers...they don't have much single deck anymore, but when they did, if a bunch of small cards came out on the first hand, they'd shuffle up. That's just outright stealing from
players never allowing you to have a positive deck for the second hand.

He's definitely grown a lot more bitter since he started dying. I remember when he'd gleefully chat about how he was going to sell his summerlin house....maybe go drive around to motels with the coffeeshop attached. looks like it's the end of the road
for jerry. At least he got to avoid a final curtain call dealing in laughlin. That's when you truly know you hit bottom.

Regarding beating the house, you must realize how many dealers like jerry are themselves who all busted out repeatedly trying to beat the house and then failed their way into go nowhere dealer jobs where they sit around hoping for an early out and trying
to prop up their self esteem convincing themselves they have juice and somehow mattered as if dealers aren't just another annoyance to any management. I can only imagine what women dealers think about male dealers knowing they all can't make as much
tokes as them and want to force them to share as a result.

And, regarding me counting....I haven't counted in years...and if I should count again someday, would probably be more for the amusement of seeing if I could get myself banned. I recall ben affleck gettinug banned counting at Hard Rock. I'm not sure
what was even going thru Ben's mind....he already has a money printing machine, counting is tedious, and on what planet does he think he is where an A-list celeb isn't going to be completely sweated non stop. Every time I've played with a celebrity
there was a floor, pittboss, or casino manager fawning non-stop of the celeb. I even had a floor at Mirage literally yell at me when I didn't recognize Dennis Rodman standing next to me before he started changing his hair color and acting weird....I
mean I got a full on lecture about how many rebounds Rodman had by some idiot in a tux standing behind my high limit BJ table. Think he felt bad later and offered me a comped round of golf.
