Gothik is a replicating scanner similar to Infiltrator, Sneaky and Paper
With Eyes. An earlier version reached first place with suicidal steps -
it wiped itself if it didn't find the opponent within 826 cycles!

I ended up writing a program (https://corewar.co.uk/metcalf/gopt.c) to
optimize the scan time and included a SPL 0 JMP 0 warrior in the
benchmark to filter out suicidal steps.
