• Worst game you ever played?

From John Geoffrey@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 6 23:58:51 2018
What would you say was the worst game you ever played?
For me it was Vampire. I loved the book, and the whole concept, but in
all actual games I played in I was bored to tears. I just can't seem to
    get into it.

the original Villians and Vigilantes, which had completely random
character generation, and a lot of the superpowers were, so far as
any of us could figure, about as useful as a dead turnip. (It was
partly the gamemaster's fault, as he had no idea what to run. And
made us all run characters based on ourselves. We were so bored one
character walked next door to the 7-11 and robbed it, just to roll
some dice. IIRC, we all died in a shootout with the police.
    Thankfully.)

The "play yourself" was explicitly part of the rules; your first character was to be based on you.

OTOH, we had a blast playing V&V; some of my best superhero characters were generated in that game.

Worst game I ever played in... a sorta homebrew game in which the GM would let you do pretty much anything... but you had to be changed to
this amazing super-race of his invention eventually... and no matter how
badass you were, the NPCs were infinitely more awesome, so your awesome characters mostly stood around and watched the GM's NPCs do everything.

That's really not a problem with the game system, but yeah, bad,
bad game, of the sort that you only bother with once. Then you find
something more entertaining to do, like stab yourself with a fork.

Although it shouldn't be considered an actual "role playing game," the worst game I ever played was the World Wrestling Federation role playing game. Basically, whomever gets initiative the most wins. (I suppose playing Colonel Ninotchka didn't help,
    either.)

I thought it was a great idea and I've done it in at least six or seven campaigns over the years. Most players liked it too.

I played only first edition AFAIK; I didn't GET new editions until I supported the kickstarter.

Well, when the GM's assumptions are literally baked into the mechanics, I'll blame the game too. :)

I played in a Fantasy Hero game for many years with such a
character. It was OK, but not something that I get excited about.

In the case of the V&V game, it was a combination of rules that
were not well though out (random powers) and lazy, unprepared
    gamemastering.

If you insist on distinguishing between the two, sure. For me, I
wouldn't consider that a game at all, so much as an ego trip based
fan club for the GM. I really don't do fan clubs.

I would think that something like wrestling would make for a nice
narrative game. But I think the rules would have to be done in a way
that emphasizes stunts over any actual damage done.
