Games are on Monday night sometime after 5:30PM at World's Best Comics,
9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.
For BlackMoor followers, this adventure can be triangulated starting at
the crossroads between the Regent of the Mines, The Black Hills, and
Fairfield Abbey. Consider Tharp and Nulb to be unmarked towns.
PART 1.
This time one of the players bought several pizzas. According to the
rules, this earned his character an Honor point.
The game took a wrong turn and we wasted a couple of hours. We knew in
advance one Player was going to be late and another player took it upon
himself to play that other person's character. Suffice it to say that character got into a situation. When the missing Player arrived he
declared I would have never done that and forbade the other Player from
playing his character again. We had to roll back and say "That never happened." We adjusted to suit.
To summarize from the prior session the party had learned that there was
old temple dedicated to evil that had become active again near the town
of Nulb and they were going to investigate by taking the low road there.
Elefus was tasked with staying in Tharp and sending periodic reports
back to BlackMoor, Elefus opted to use his Gargoyle henchman as a
courier.
We began (again) by waiting for the various townsfolk reports from the
ballot box that were read at noon. There wasn't much that the Player's
didn't already know with a few exceptions. Basically:
1) The new priest of Pangrus is up to no good.
2) Don't take the low road to Nulb, the Gnomes that live along the way
can't be trusted.
3) Strange noises are heard when walking past the graveyard at night.
4) Jaruk's bear almost bit one of the Tower construction workers
Yesterday.
5) Ernst and Bertram have been spending a lot of time together lately.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
6) YOU jump into the well and then tell ME it's a passage to the
Elemental Plane of Fire.
None of the above reports were acted on.
After checkout time at the Inn (which Aery's tricked a character into
buying another lunch), Blake took the job for (five silver pieces) of delivering a letter to the sister of one of the townsfolk some miles up
the high road to Nulb. This sister lives in a farmhouse just off the
road and hasn't been heard from in a week.
For no reason, Blake's character was accompanied by Tujef, Twitch,
Curly, Jacko and Aerys.
When they arrived, Blake approached the farmhouse while the rest of the
party stayed on the road. Blake knocked on the door. No answer. Blake
left a note.
Tujef also approached the farmhouse and fell into a hole. It is a bit
hazy in my own mind what happened after that, but Twitch, Curly and
Jacko also went down the hole to investigate and never returned.
(GM's Note: I may be wrong on the timeline but it fits with the
situation at the end of the session.)
Blake and Aerys decided to retreat and contact the rest of the party.
Meanwhile back in town the majority of the party had already left the
town of Tharp on the low road to Nulb and it was presumed the Blake and
the rest would catch up later. By the time they had started to make
camp Blake and her consorts caught up and told their story about Tujef.
The party pulled stakes and marched back their rescue.
Passing through town in the middle of the night the party made it to the farmhouse by dawn.
Aerys, being a creature with wings, entered the farmhouse through an
open window and found an empty living room, an empty bedroom and a
kitchen with a big obvious hole in the floor. Aerys ignored the obvious
danger and decided to chow down on anything found in the kitchen. While
there she was hit by gobs of webs emitted from a huge insect and was
dragged down the hole.
The rest of the party heard Aerys' scream and followed down the hole.
They arrived as soon as they could but she was already gone.
Down the hole and and following giant insect tracks the party found
itself in a warren of these creatures. The first one they found simply
ignored the party and wandered off. Supposing it was just a "worker"
they continued on.
In a large chamber they found Aerys struggling in a cocoon and hanging
next to another cocoon. They immediately opened it up and freed her.
However opening up the other one they found the body of a desiccated
human female. They presumed it was the missing sister.
Following more tracks downward they came to another chamber where they
fell into battle with more of these creatures. Also the ones that were
workers apparently received some signal and also attacked the party from
the rear.
Due to the aforementioned two hour delay I had to cut the session short
in the middle of this fight to be resumed next week.

Hmm. It sounds like the player didn't have prior permission to play the character? I'll play one (I'm fair and usually keep them to the back,
unless they didn't give notice, then they're tasty), but for another
player I've always required prior permission for a player to play a
missing player's character. If they had permission, I still keep
overrule authority if they want them to do something out of character.
I try not to do do-overs either as it eats too much time, and have
post-facto fixes if absolutely necessary, though I'm not very good at
that, but I haven't had to do one in a really long time.
