    Netherlands fact of the day

by Tyler Cowen March 25, 2024 at 2:09 pm in Data Source Food and Drink

T"he country, which is a bit bigger than Maryland, not only accomplished this feat but also has become the world’s second largest exporter of agricultural products by value behind the United States. Perhaps even more significant in the face of a
warming planet: It is among the largest exporters of agricultural and food technology. The Dutch have pioneered cell-cultured meat, vertical farming, seed technology and robotics in milking and harvesting — spearheading innovations that focus on
decreased water usage as well as reduced carbon and methane emissions…

The country has nearly 24,000 acres — almost twice the size of Manhattan — of crops growing in greenhouses. These greenhouses, with less fertilizer and water, can grow in a single acre what would take 10 acres of traditional dirt farming to achieve.
Dutch farms use only a half-gallon of water to grow about a pound of tomatoes, while the global average is more than 28 gallons..."

Not for long. The EU is working hard to shut down any type of farming that produces meaningful amount of food. I'm convinced that due to this, the right+nationalists will win in this junes EU-election.

We have had a lot of immigration of Dutch farmers to this area. One of
the major reasons for them leaving the Netherlands is the massive
    regulations they face there.

Sounds about right. And there's no sign of decreasing regulations. But its
not only farming. The EU just approved new "AI-regulations" to ensure yet another area where the EU will be left in the dust by other nations. Too
bad for the young european, but at least they can all move to the US when
they decide to start companies in cutting edge science fields.

While I am certain that you must be an acute and well informed
observer of EU and Dutch politics, it looks to me like you missed the
point. The Dutch farmers apparently do not concentrate on the volume
of food they produce but rather on the the return/price they get for
what they produce for export. That is without considering that their
best returns may not even be food crops. Live plants, flowers, seeds,
and similar could be the inccome drivers. Not sure who supplies all
the vegetation for the brown shops, but then that is not exported.

The Netherlands is the 133rd largest country in the world by total

Steel mills? The current government has been trying to reduce the
number of farmers, so they're all up in arms and voting for pro-farmer
parties that don't care about the environment. The reduction of the
number of farmers should have started decades ago and should have been
a gradual, much less painful process. But politicians don't think
further ahead than the next election.

By gum, Sire Hank, being killfiled by HRH Jill is like a Hebrew being lost in the wilderness, back in them old Bible times...

ACTS 13:18 18 "Now for a time of about forty years He put up with their ways in the wilderness."

Why does Paul say God "put up with" the ways of the Hebrews in the wilderness for "about forty years" (Acts 13:18)?

During the forty years that the Hebrews spent in the wilderness after leaving Egypt and prior to entering the Promised Land, God constantly "put up" with their betrayal, complaining and doubting...

Was not believing in God and His deliverance really grounds for death?

It was back then, as it is today. Only those who believed in God - Joshua and Caleb - reached the Promised Land back then, and only those who believe in Jesus will reach heaven today...

From Washington Dulles to Trump International: GOP Pushing to Rename The >>> Airport
by Gary Leff on March 27, 2024

Congressional Republicans want to rename Washington Dulles International >>> Airport for Donald Trump. Western Pennsylvania Congressman Guy
Reschenthaler is soliciting colleagues to join him as co-sponsor of
    legislation.

Trump has a stock ticker DJT and may soon have an airport code, too. GOP >>> House aides are circulating a bill to rename Washington Dulles Airport as >>> Donald J. Trump International Airport.

PA Rep. Guy Reschenthaler is sponsoring the billAirport

Do it! If anything, just to piss off liberals and to make the Metropolitan >>> Washington Airport Authority spend millions on new signage. The people of >>> the region deserve nothing less, lol...

    MDGA!

    Make Dulles Great Again!

    O:-)

Amazing! What a way to honor a great leader such as Trump! =) Hope they go >> through with it. On the other hand I worry due to the polarizing climate in >> the US, that democrats will then just refuse to fly in/out of that airport.

The democrats need to book one - way flights to the *Gulag* for themselves, lol...

Why don't they go to sweden? To me it sounds like sweden would be their paradise in earth!

And sweden would benefit too! Democracts are basically what the
center/right is in sweden, so that would stop the fall of sweden. A great win/win for both the US and sweden!

Thank you cshenk, I know that I can be trolly as well, so I feel for
the guy. ;) So when ever Bruce pops up, I try to troll back a little,
and sometimes, due to an ability to laugh at myself, I think his
poking is a bit humorous. =)

I don't mind minor trolling and you are on topic more often than not.

    Thank you. =)

Don't thank her yet. Jill's still working on her. cshenk's Jill's
Mini-Me. She's just a bit slow following orders.
