Tonight/Sunday morning is when we do the clock dance for those of
us who observe the time change.

It's your choice to do this task before going to bed tonight. Or
if you are a stickler for doing it at the moment it actually changes,
that means getting up at 2:00 a.m. Then again, you can wait until
you arise Sunday morning to change clocks in your house that don't automatically set themselves.

I changed all of mine, that don't change by themselves, this morning.
My wife changed the air-fryer clock, so I didn't have to read the damned instructions again.
Don't forget the vehicles! I suppose "modern" cars change themselves,
but I really have no idea.

Can't speak for all, bon on my last three or four cars you had to push a
button to select DST or standard. The time comes from satellites that
    don't change.

Phone and computers change, everything else here is manual.

In my truck, I just let the damn clock stay on one time all year. I know
it's an hour off. No problem to add or subtract 1.

I learned that in first grade.

RCMP Offiser Dave should follow yer wise example...

That way he wouldn't have to watch all them instructional videos on how to change the time on his clock radio...

Does Unca Tojo out on that far atoll have to wind his clocks back...

Maybe ALL the way back to December 7th, 1941...???

I am not going to go out and set the clocks in my cars. I will do that
the next time I have somewhere to go. It is a snap in my CRV. It
shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

I have already tackled the upstairs clock and my watches. My analog
watch has not been used in so long that I had to advance the date a
couple days. I got a break on one digital watch because the battery is
dead. The other one took me more than 20 minutes. I watched the video
that said to hold the Mode button until it beeps. It doesn't beep. It
was an exercise in frustration. I tried over and over and over and all
of a sudden I got it. Now I don't remember what it was I did that worked.

Springing forward is easier than falling back, since the wall clocks
hate going backwards and have to be dialed forward twenty-three hours.

I had a watch with a broken button that was needed to choose minutes
or hours (or day / month / year) to set time. But a different button
could be used to move it ahead OR behind <29 seconds to the nearest
minute which set seconds to 0.

So twice a year, I had to move the time ahead or back an hour by 29 or
less seconds 125 or so times, which took a bit over two hours.

Remember wind - up clocks in cars, Ed... they almost never kept very good time...

And on "base" models, they were optional...

IIRC accurate digital "quartz" clocks started to become a thing in the early 70's or so...

Some can be a real PITS, mine is very simple. You just touch the clock
on the screen and it pops up the menu, push DST or STD. Done.

Mine is a PITA - so bad a couple of years ago I brought the manual up
here and re-wrote it in plain English on a separate piece of paper I
keep in the glove compartment, that made it a little better but not
    much :(

If it's that hard, isn't it easier to remember whether your car
clock's set to the correct time or not?

I'm on the fence about Steve. I was debating adding him to my
killfile, since his food contributions aren't the sort of thing
I enjoy and his non-food contributions are, in the main, annoying.

After GG shut down, I cleaned out the section of my killfile that
pertains to rfc. As of now, I've re-done four entries, one of whom
shows up in rfc only via crossposting.

I must be getting good at this. I just went out to set the clocks on my

oven and it happened to flip to 1:14. I went to my car, put the key in,

stuck the key in the ignition, hit the button for the menu, flipped down
to set time, advanced it an hour, removed the key, walked back to the
house and the oven clock read 1:15.

Most of the clocks in my house I don't even bother to
set the time because we have power fails too often.

This AM we had one (due to snow this time) long enough
for me to finish set up of my newish wood stove in the
basement and go to the Canadian Tire Store to buy $250
or so worth of flashlights & batteries.

The only other flashlights I had were single AA dog poop
    flashlights, but now I have a 3300 lumen police-style
(i.e. big enough to use as a club) with beam focus
and a 1250 lumen room lantern.

While passing to the cashiers, I had to pick up a package of
"Candy Time" Bacon Flavoured Maple Buds. Sorry, Ed, but this
is a Canadian exclusive. BTW, they are mainly chocolate, but
if you'll pardon the pun, the bacon and maple make them
    'manly chocolate'.

Nope, can no longer buy little cars like my Mazda 2, only SUVs and I'm
not paying to fill a gas tank on one of those :)

My SUV only had a 19-gallon gas tank and if you're not constantly on

tankful can last you a month.

I remember when "standard - size" cars in the 60's, e.g., full - size Ford, Plymouth, Chevy, had 20 - gallon tanks...

Even with a 6 or a small V8, you were lucky to get 17 - 18 MPG at "highway speed", and this was considered "good"... if you had "power" options like power steering, brakes, A/C, mileage was even worse...

I recently read an old "Motor Trend" review of a '65 Chevy Bel - Air "stripper" sedan, it was a 6, with only a Powerglide automatic tranny as an option (and radio/heater...); in road tests it got a SMASHING 15 MPG... tnis was considered "adequate"...

Today, cars are ***vastly*** more efficient... even with emissions controls, full "power" accessories, and the like, the cost per mile of driving a "vehical" (a SHELDON spelling...!!!) is ***far*** cheaper than back in the "good old days"... and
adjusted for inflation, gasoline is really no more expensive than back then in many places... vehicles are also of a far higher quality and durability, it's common for the average vehicle to last 150 - 200K, and in good shape... in 1965 the average car
with c. 60/75K miles was a rusty old "beater"...

With the home improvement store across the street.

You'd have enough room for a Hummer there.

I often see a fire truck there; the firefighters are inside shopping
for stuff for the firehouse. It occupies more than one space, of
    course.

Same here, but they park just before you'd reach the front door same
as if they were there for a fire.

Perhaps the local fire department is more courteous than yours.
They park off to the side of the building, not in the fire lane.

Frankly, other than the public image issue, I don't see a major problem
with them parking in the fire lane. The fire lane is there to ensure
passage and room for a fire truck in the even of an emergency. If there
is an emergency that requires their presence, they are already there.
