• I lost my bragging rights

From Dave Smith@21:1/5 to All on Thu Feb 22 09:53:45 2024
It has been almost 4 years since we got locked down due to Covid. I got
the vaccine just as soon as I could, and I got all of the updates. I
accepted that it was reasonably effective at preventing the Wuhan Flu
but that if I did get it the symptoms would be milder.

Starting about this time last week I was fighting off a cold and
capitulated on Sunday. This morning my wife insisted I go to the
doctor, but I don't want to go just for a cold. So she insisted on
doing a Covid test. I failed. Those two lines showed up in no time at all.

Feel better sooooon! I had a mild, mild case summer of 2022 and it really messed with my taste buds for about four months.

Sorry about that Don and I got our shots as soon as our group opened
up. Then first booster and annual since in Nov along with flu shots.
If we've had it, the case was too lite to know it.

I don't know about you but I have heard from numerous sources that while
it may not keep you completely safe from Covid the symptoms are likely
    to be less serious.

Meanwhile... my wife tested positive this morning. She has slept most of

Her experience has been different from mine. She is not coughing or
congested like I was. Mine was slow coming on. She was fine on Friday,
felt ill Saturday morning, tested herself and was positive for Covid.
She slept almost all day and all night. She was up and about for about
an hour but has been asleep the rest of the time.

Perhaps she will get over it faster than I did. Years ago I had
something hit me out of the blue. I had stopped for coffee and was
heading back to the office and my head was buzzing like I had had 10
cups of coffee. I was feeling crappy on the drive home and when I got
home I undressed and climbed into bed. Every bone in my body hurt and I
was almost in tears. I had never in my life been that sick. I set the
alarm to call in sick in the morning. When the alarm went off in the
morning I was felt fine. It was odd that something that hit me so fast
and so hard was so short lived.

Influenza can come on quickly like that, although it lasts a few days afterwards. One day I went into a management meeting at 1pm feeling fine.
When I came out at 1:30, I had to steady myself against the wall to get
back to my office. I was off work for 4 or 5 days with classic flu
    symptoms.

Oh? I've never received one single injection and thankfully the mild, mild case I had summer of 2022 was just that. Mild. But that's not to say that

It's hard to say based on one person. I've had all the shots except

True. My nephew also had case of Covid late summer of 2022, but his lasted
a few days longer than mine and he'd never had the injections either. But
a good many of my relatives did get the injections but haven't been hit

In old age, we're more likely to develop the common
deteriortions of old age, problems with circulation, the
immune system (arthritis, cancers), organ decline(heart,
kidneys, lungs). All of which are co-morbidities when
    combined with covid.

IOW the longer you live, the more vulnerable your system
becomes to damage by covid infection.

Think how bad it would have been without the boosters.

Why do you think it would be any worse if he'd not had any or the
    injections?

    Past statistics show it.

Oh? I've never received one single injection and thankfully the mild, mild case I had summer of 2022 was just that. Mild. But that's not to say that
I might not pick up another case of it and it be super severe.

Statististics are valid for groups, not individuals. They indicate
only what is most likely to happen to a member of the group.

It was odd that something that hit me so fast
and so hard was so short lived.

i had a cold or some bug a few weeks ago, i only felt symptoms
for a single day, but i may have been infectious and spreading
the critters around for a few days before then. next day i felt
like nothing had happened. the day of, i was dripping out my
sinuses like a faucet. it was so annoying that i put some plugs
of TP up my nose to keep me from dripping all over the place.
Mom did not catch it at all from me. we're usually pretty good
about keeping isolated from each other and have our own mostly
separate bathrooms so that helps a lot.

as far as we both know we've not had Covid, but i have been
vaccinated and boosted once and then i thought that was enough
because the variants were becomming less dangerous. Mom did
not get any vaccines at all. i would however guess that since
i have had several minor colds/flus/whatever they were that at
least one of them might have been Covid and Mom too has had a
few illnesses but neither of us have been tested for the anti-
bodies that would indicate if we've had it.

True, no one knows. Unexpected was Josh, He yes 34 or 35 when he died
of covid. One minute he was dropping off Prince (Don and I watched his
Great Dane while he was at work) then a call from the hospital to watch
Prince. Josh never got to leave the hospital. He had no known medical precursors.

Prince followed him 9 months later at just under age 7. Great Danes
    sadly, do not live long.
