That's livable for January.
Third week of January is always cold. I don't know why people
have their panties in such a bunch. For the clicks, I suppose.
It may be a little optimistic, but the forecast for the 23rd is
a high of 38 F. Just like clockwork: a week of bitterly cold
weather followed by more average conditions.
The famous January Thaw. About 5 years ago my friend and I rode out
motorcycles to Niagara on the Lake for lunch on Jan. 25. It was about 16C. >>
Not likely this year. After an extremely mild couple of months I woke up
to winter. It is -10C and very windy. We had some snow yesterday and I
am going to have to go out and clean it up. It's a good thing I finally
got around to checking my snow blower the other day.
I might venture out tomorrow afternoon and a Chinook blows in on Tuesday:-)

Most of the dogs I have had like winter weather. My current dog, a mini Golden Doodle was having a ball running in the snow yesterday. He loves rolling in the snow. The Bouvier des Flandres that we had was very quiet
as a pup but she came to life the first time she saw snow. One of my
Labs used to slide down snow covered hills on his belly and would run
along an ice covered stream and then slide into the water, swim around,
get out and run back and do it again.
Short haired dogs seem to have a little trouble with the cold, but long haired dogs seem to enjoy it.

I don't blame you. I have been in -40 and it's really unpleasant. There
is nothing good to be said about it.
An emergency call went out late yesterday afternoon to reduce power
consumption as Alberta was close to imposing brown-outs. It came on my
cell phone with that screaming/squarking sound.
Almost immediately, power consumption dropped 100MW and within minutes
another 100MW.
It's a horrible noise, but it gets your attention :) The RCMP in NS
will still not say why they chose to notify twitter about the
Portapique shooter in the middle of the night and would have saved the
lives of about six people out for early morning walks, one pregnant
who would have stayed home with an alert.

Calling the RCMP "police" is a misnomer. They are clearly a military organisation.

They are a sad joke these days. I don't know how they ever got that
famous for always getting their man. They didn't do anything about that
guy in Portapique despite many complaints about him and being told he
was accumulating firearms despite his firearms prohibition. They did a
piss poor job of dealing with the guy in Myerthorpe who shot three
mounties. I guess that, despite cops dropping off the network at his
farm, the were convinced he was unarmed because their idiotic long gun registry said he was under a firearms prohibition. He was a violent
criminal so we all know he will abide by that.
They latest clusterf&$k was to arrest a Rebel news reported who was
trying to get our deputy prime minister to answer a simple question. He
is walking along trying to get her to at least acknowledge his question,
the cop steps into his way, sticks his arm out so the guy walked into
him and then arrested him for assaulting a police officer. That is shameful. IMO Rebel ranks down there with Fox but the guy did nothing
wrong, and it was the cop who assaulted him.  They are a national embarrassment.
Late morning I was out adjusting the sheets on the front bushes and a lady was walking her two very friendly golden retrievers. No snow, but they were mighty perky and enjoying the cold temperatures while she and I were bundled up like we were getting ready to mush a team of huskies.

I'm not the one who is calling Joan "Ellie May" (a misspelled
character name from the TV show 'The Beverly Hillbillies) or
telling her she's wrong to drape her outdoor plants with sheets
to protect them from freezing weather. I know a nymshifting
