    Nope.

YThsi may be a side effect of your AV software. I use Ublock
Origin which blocks a lot more than just ads - like those damned
cookie policy notices that the UK forced upon us, and other
overlays that pop up after 10 seconds asking for your email (you
have to specifically enable the later two options). And I don't
think I ever see ads on youtube except on my TV.

It's really fucked up that Google does not allow ad-blockers on
any Google Android device. You have to use a host blocker which
doesn't work as reliably or efficiently. This is what the world
gets for adopting Google Android with no other practical
alternatives other than Apple (which does the same thing):
Private Corporations dictating what you see and when you see it.

It's AdBlock Plus (the free version); Youtube indentifies it as AdBlock
and nags me to turn it off. After watching about three videos without
turning it off, ads start showing up (you have to wait a bit before the
"Skip Ad" button pops up, then you can view the video). If the video is sufficiently long another ad will pop up in the middle, same shit...
wait to click Skip Ad. As I said, I'm not going to buy anything based
on some random ad that pops up on Youtube. And no, I'm not going to pay
for Youtube Premium. Google hasn't accomplished anything other than
    annoy me.

I don't know about Android devices. Google as a search engine was fine.
(At home I use the DuckDuckGo add-on for browsing). All the other
extraneous Google stuff is crap. At the office, Google Chrome is the
default browser. We use a number of industry specific web-based
applications. When I open Chrome to access those links Chrome wants me
to "sign in" to Google. NO. It's none of their damn business.

I tried permanently switching to duckduckgo, but it has one annoying
thing. When I look for a Dutch word, it gives me results for the
nearest English word. Google give me results for the Dutch word. Most
of you wouldn't notice that because you only look for English words.

Yoose people should be using Firefox.

So says our resident Google-Head. I realize by the way I wrote my post
you may have assumed I use Google Chrome *at home* but I don't. I use
    Firefox with the DuckDuckGo add-on.

I have no control over the browser used at work. Our tech department
requires everyone to use the same standard browser; unfortunately it
    happens to be Google Chrome.

From your post, it was fairly obvious that you don't use Chrome at home. That pretty much means that you're probably using Edge or Firefox. It doesn't surprise me that you use Firefox. My guess is most people here use Chrome or Edge with Google - but
we don't talk about that, do we?

Never cared for Edge and Bing. Chrome does everything I need and
remembers passwords for me. Especially nice since I use a couple of
different computers and everything is there on both.

I switched to Chrome about 10 years ago after using both Firefox and Chrome. I used to love Firefox - until it got all fat, bloated, and slow. Chrome has had some problems. Mostly, it's a memory hog but I like its speed and its clean interface. There was
a time when browsers had a box for URLs and a separate box for searches. Chrome changed that into the single search/web address field and gave browsers their clean, modern, look that we have today. That's a very good thing.

Chrome, Firefox, Opera, maybe even Edge all work well. It just depends
a bit which one you're used to. Only a doting fan would have a strong preference. Is the owner of Google Chinese or something?

I donno. Why not write to them and find out?
Oddly enough, the last 5 or so guitars that I've bought were made in China. I wasn't trying to get Chinese guitars, it's just the way it turned out. This probably means something.

Chinese stuff is ok as long as it's made and checked according to
western specifications. Left to their own devices, it all breaks down
quickly, if it ever worked at all :)
